So I recently got into running and signed up for the Birmingham half marathon. Trouble was i was running in normal Nike trainers and my knees were feeling it. So i ventured in this place and it was exactly what i needed. This Birmingham Runner store has everything a runner of any ability needs. From reflective clothing, to running shoes, water bottles, to safety gear. They have a treadmill in store which records your running motion onto a laptop to see if you need neutral or stability trainers. I found this extremely useful and found the cause of my achy knees. I needed high stability running shoes to lessen the impact on my knees, achilles heel and ankles. They have running shoes for most budgets. I managed to purchase a pair of New Balance shoes for £65 reduced from £95. The service is very friendly and professional. Store hours 9:00am to 5:30 pm. For all your running needs get down to this store!

The guys at Birmingham Runner really know what they are talking about and offer great advice and options when you are looking for that perfect trainer. The purpose of my visit was to replace some old running trainers. There are some good brands of running shoes here, but not a huge selection to make you feel over whelmed. It wasn’t long before I was asked if I needed any help, despite them being quite busy. I though the sales man approach could have been a bit different when I asked to try on some trainers — «just don’t pick the trainers going by the colour». I am of course a fashion conscious woman so I am not going to buy some trainers that look whack but appreciate that comfort and suitability are important for each individual. I tried on a few pairs of trainers, running on the treadmill so that I could be recorded on how I ran in them. The sales man was patient whilst I tried on a few pairs and I decided to buy the first pair I tried on. There was 20% off all clothing which was great so I bought a running jacket too. I wouldn’t hesitate in returning if I needed some sports wear. There is free car parking directly outside the shop too — bonus!

My husband and I came in here to get some running shoes, as we decided that it was about time that we, well, did some running. Of course, the big sell with the Birmingham Runner shop is that they have a little running machine hooked up to a video that analyses your running style to see what sort of shoes you are best suited you. This was fun, and made you feel like they had more expertise than other generic sports shops. Which, to be fair, they have. The staff helped us choose some proper running trainers, we felt like we were being advised well, and they didn’t just try and push us towards the most expensive shoes. In fact, we both got a pair from the selection on sale. Which was quite lucky, as the sale selection didn’t seem huge. It’s not cheap, but you do get a more expert service as this specialises in running, rather than trying to cover all sports bases. I think their sale selection could be a bit broader-ranging: we were extremely lucky that we both managed to get shoes in sale. Also, as much fun as the whole video-running-machine thing is, I got the feeling that there was something a bit gimmicky about it, as customer after customer was wheeled on and wheeled off and given, basically, the same advice. A whiff of factory-production line about the whole thing, or treadmill, as the case may be. That said, the running shoes have performed perfectly so far, so perhaps it’s not all gimmick…

Some parking bays at the front of the store. The staff are friendly and helpful when you are looking for something. I was helped to purchase some trainers last year which sadly have not been as well used as I had planned! Really good at giving tips and the trainers I did get are very comfortable and supportive. Also picked up an application to the London Marathon here which they have when they come out in Spring/Summer — and no I did not end up filling it in!
