Having used various hairdressers around Birmingham over the years(I’m not fussy about using the same salon and same stylist over and over, and generally go for haircuts when the mood strikes me rather than planning weeks in advance), I found myself wandering into Sporting Barbers purely out of curiosity for their theme. Sport is not exactly what comes to mind when I think of good haircuts; in fact, it’s normally the exact opposite(as I’m sure you’ll agree if you Google ‘worst sport haircuts’ or something alone those lines), so needless to say I was curious. I was left slightly disappointed by the décor, it must be said. I was expecting the sporting equivalent to the excellent Kings barbers, who have classic movie memorabilia lining the walls, but the theme seemed a bit of an afterthought really. They had a TV mounted, which isn’t a bad idea for a barbers, except it was awkwardly positioned to face directly out the front of the shop, which meant it was only viewable in the mirror, and even then only partially. Without being able to see the screen, I’d have much preferred a chat with the stylist, the radio, or just silence. The cut was fine, and I came out looking better than I often do immediately after the cut. Not bad for somewhere to pop in for a quick snip.
