Nice things:
— Nice variety, loads of international food.
— Reasonable prices
— They have a nice selection of clothes as well (the ‘George’ line)
— Efficient checkout system
Not so nice things:
— Not in any way better than Sainsbury or any other chain.
— Restaurant is often under staffed and the food is average

Paris

This is my first experience of «independent shopper» and first experience in England (I’m french).
As a student I like this supermarket, good size, some choices, nice prices. One of the bad points is that really often there are out of stock products.
Otherwise it is really easy access and I enjoy doing my shopping there.

This shop is like all other ASDAs, cheap food, of a fairly low quality.
Great if you are a student and want cheap food.
This shop does get very busy at peak shopping times, so you can expect to queue for a while before getting served.

On a busy Saturday Christmas shopping, I stopped at Asda for some groceries and decided to rest with a cup of coffee in the restaurant upstairs.
Although there was a long line of people queuing for hot food I bypassed this just to buy a cup of coffee. At the till you have to collect your mug to self serve coffee at the machines in the main restaurant area. I asked for a coffee and the server slammed the mug down on a tray in front of me. She did not speak to me at all, smile or was at all friendly. I asked for a receipt and she said no. Quite honestly I’ve never had service like it in my life. I paid and served myself a coffee still in shock at her treatment
of customers. Incidentally, the coffee wasn’t too bad and was only £1 but I don’t think anything could ever make me return to this place especially the café.

Asda is a massive supermarket with everything you need in terms of food and drink, electronics, clothes and more. There is a café upstairs which offers affordable food and a good respite if you’ve been shopping in town all day. Its in a very good location and location is good. It does tend to get very busy though and this can be offputting at times.

Large Asda store in the City Centre. Very convenient if you are shopping in town and need to pick up a few bits. They also have a reasonable sized George at Asda section.
Parking is not free but there is a car park next to it which has a lift that leads to the store and a long walkway.
It is a very busy store and the queues are always really big. They also seem to have a problem with stock in that lots of things are always out of stock.
However the staff are friendly and helpful although a little slow on the tills at times!
They now run an over 25 id scheme for alcohol so if you look under 25 they id you, which I think is all Asda stores. This is quite frustrating if you don’t have your id.
I would not go here every week for my shopping as it too hectic and the bigger stores have more stock and free parking!

This is not the best Asda I have been too as you have to pay for parking and it is not the biggest in the Southampton area. The store is well laid out but is always very busy with shoppers and students. I think the store seems a little dirty and could do with a bit of a spruce up. They sell clothing too which is handy but you could probably get things cheaper around town. I would not go here for my weekly shop but is very useful for when you are in the City and need a few bits and pieces.

Same cheap food as at other Asda stores. They also sell a good selection of gifts, magazines and household items. The queues are always long and you have to pay to park nearby or walk to it. I have been to far better Asda stores where parking is free and the queues aren’t as long. This seems to be one of the cheaper supermarkets out of the main ones.

Does exactly what it should do — sells food on the cheap and provides a service.
I can’t comment on the parking as i don’t have a car but overall i am impressed, the staff are very friendly too.

Good idea to have a supermarket there for convenience, but it seems a bit big and overkill for something located right next to shopping centre int he middle of town: come one, let’s face it. Who is going to pay for the extortionate parking prices in West Quay to then go shopping at Asda? If you just go to the Totton one, there is less traffic and the car park is free for 3 hours!
