Food is okay and are competitive with other businesses in that area. Staff are friendly and service is fairly quick but the place lacked atmosphere and was dead on both times I visited being a Friday and Saturday. Its a great place if you want to meet with friends and actually be able to talk to them without loud music blasting away!

Great food and drink prices. Most main dishes under five quid, low drink prices and good atmosphere. Daily (almost) food and drink specials. The food portions were good and, while delivery wasn’t exactly what one might call zippy, the food came out hot and exactly as ordered. Staff were friendly and patient of this visiting American. Stayed in Southampton two days and dined there twice.

Bizarre — went there in January, coldest weather for years … and there was a midge flying past my table.
Only Greene King from cask when I went which is pretty dull — although they do own the place.

The Old Fat Cat has a great location on the High St, easily accessible and right opposite one of the main university building for Southampton Solent University (time for a quick hlaf in between lectures).
They serve a few beers on tap, not many and serve a standard array of bottles and spirits, nothing special or a huge range.
The food has always been good when I’ve eaten in there, and is served pretty quickly, and at a decent price.
The one gripe other than the over noisy karoake nights when I go in for a quiet drink is the flies/​midges that always seem to be flying around in there wherever you sit. I’m hoping they’re recent refit will sort this out!

Quite studenty but big and airy. It has a pool table and plenty of seating. They do food as well as cheap drinks so also a good place for a works lunch or do. The staff have always been friendly and it gets quite busy on the weekend. Great location too.

Not a bad place. Quite big, so lots of places to sit with a group of friends. Do student nights and so forth. Not really an amazing place, but its not terrible either. Always looks nice and clean inside, but nothing really special.
