Hush Bar

Slightly less chavvy than the Cliff but full of pretentious queens and their older hangers onBar staff unfriendly and dismissive to anyone over 30 years old, but hey this typifies the gay scene generally nowadays. No wonder gay pubs are in decline.

If you Google ‘gay bar in Southend’ you will see Hush bar as the premier spot in the ratings for the gays.
It’s a nice little pub not far from the station with a great selection behind the bar. The owners/​bar staff seemed like a lovely bunch and service was efficient and friendly.
There certainly seems to be a lot going on. When the Mrs and I went down for our bank holiday weekend and rocked up to the Hush Bar there were glitter parties here, and disco bopping here and everything with a big rainbow on it. It seems the place to be pre-​party and a lovely alternative to some of the more traditional pubs in the area.
We didn’t order food but there’s some simple stuff on offer. The tables are a bit sticky and there’s nothing glam about the place, but it’s a good place to catch a pint in peace.
Personally I didn’t feel it had the life and soul that its rival up the road had, The Cliff. However it was a lovely bright little spot with outside seating.

Known as a gay bar in Southend, we visited as a friend was performing there, found it to be very welcoming and more of a gay friendly bar than anything. Good way to start your evening with a couple of drinks and karaōke every Thursday and sometimes Saturday evenings. Drinks are reasonably priced but not a very wide range available compared to other bars. A lot smaller hen expected but has a great atmosphere with very friendly staff. Toilets are well kept and I would recommend this bar to anyone that enjoys a good atmosphere where they can relax easily.
