I’ve never been much of a wine drinker, myself. My experiences with wine generally go no further than taking a box of perry to Leeds Festival, and even then I usually take it out of the box and just drink from the bag, making it look like I’m drinking from my own urine bag or from the water of a goldfish I won at a village fête. So it was with much trepidation that I visited the wine emporium next to Birkdale train station recently to look for a few bottles of good quality wine for a party my parents were throwing(why they sent me, god only knows). However, my fears quickly vanished upon entering Majestic as I was met by a member of staff that was helpful and knowledgeable, helping me to differentiate between Australian reds and Italian whites before deciding on my purchases. They can be quite expensive but we’re not talking Hock here so it’s not too surprising and for the more adventurous amongst you, they offer a variety of flavoured wines and champagnes for your consumption.

Liquorice Vanilla Black pepper Plum Blackcurrant Blackberry Cherry Dark chocolate Oak Cider Tobacco & Spice Just thinking about the different flavour wines they sell at Majestic is making my mouth water. The white, sparkling and champagne sections are all pretty impressive but it’s the Australian reds that get me every time. They have light reds, medium bodied reds and rich, spicy reds that naturally come with a higher price tag. As we know, I’ve already developed a love affair with their Stump Hill shiraz but they also sell very good shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and grenache reds by Lodge Hill, Wolf Blass, Nottage Hill, Yarra Hills and Peter Lehmann. I can provide the wine if you bring the corkscrew and glasses. Deal?
