Heading north and part-way over The Pennines to see a mate one Saturday night in Sowerby Bridge we started in The Works for a drink. As a converted workshop it’s a bit of a Tardis in there, with high ceilings and an upstairs room where they hold comedy nights and private parties. It feels pretty airy in there, a nice contrast to some of the darker, cosier pubs I’ve been to. It was fairly busy, but not so much that we couldn’t get a seat(a repurposed church pew). They also don’t play any background music so you can actually have a conversation. There’s a decent number of beers on tap, I opted for a pint of Timothy Taylor’s ‘Landlord’ which went down a treat. For wine drinkers you can get it by the glass. All in all a very nice, fairly relaxed place to start an evening with a drink.

Very expensive! Sowerby Bridge was a working class town until places like this came along and stole the free entertainment scene, capitalising it by charging hefty ticket prices. Some of the local entertainment jumped ship from the better, more down to earth ‘Puzzle Hall’ to be paid at the works. This has left the locals who can’t afford an Iphone without the folk scene they once had, as the entertainers will go where the money is. This is a capitalist venue that as long as we have the ‘keeping up with the Joneses’ types, will eat the rest. Oh and did I mention there is a no hat policy for their CCTV system, very cold snobby atmos full of golfing enthusiasts Hahaha

I have been visiting the Works since it opened and it’s always a pleasure, great beer, delicious food and always a friendly atmosphere, definitely a must of you’re drinking in Sowerby

One of the best pubs in the area and my goto place when I’m in town. There’s always around 10 beers on tap which have always been in tiptop condition when I’ve been there. The converted interior is light and airy with tall ceilings which feels really welcoming, much better than the old dark interiors that a lot of pubs have. Very attentive staff who even when busy are quick to serve you. It looks like the menu has expanded which if it’s as good as the breakfast should be superb. Finally try the newly opened lounge room. The chairs there are so comfortable you wont want to leave.

Really well set up real ale pub with an excellent array of very well kept beers. Good food menu and quality at that. Friendly and efficient bar staff. Has a good atmosphere too! Beer prices are a bit sky rocketespecially in these hard times.

I agree with hatch five’s review and he notes the 12 or so real ales in excellent condition. Always serving 3 Taylor’s beers and a good choice of guests including local microbrewery beers. Also worth noting the food — simple menu but excellent quality and value. They also serve a superb breakfast on Sunday mornings from 10am I believe(with tea or coffee — sadly no bar service till 12 o’clock). A small function room is available at the back for private parties or meetings and I believe they are working on a vast room upstairs. There is now a good real ale ‘circuit’ in Sowerby Bridge so you can have a excellent day out here.

This bar, in a converted engineering works is one of the highlights of Sowerby Bridge. There is a massive selection of real ales, ciders and other drinks on offer and despite the large size of the venue there is a great atmosphere here, with it packed to the rafters on a Saturday Night

The Works is a large, friendly pub. It’s one of a growing number in Sowerby Bridge, where the social scene is really getting going. It is usually full, with a busy, bustly feeling. It is always clean(the toilets are spotless — always a good sign), the décor is contemporary and fresh and the staff are friendly and helpful. From time to time they have live music there, and although I’ve only seen a couple of the bands they were quality. A night out in Sowerby Bridge MUST include a few in The Works.

I would really recommend this pub in Sowerby Bridge. It’s very traditional serving mainly home brew ales that taste amazing. The atmosphere is that of a very traditional pub and really adds to the whole experience. Food is also served and this also delivers in quality.
