Homebase is probably the nearest DIY shop to the centre of St Albans and very convenient for me which is why I go there. I know it is a bit overpriced but frankly I can’t be bothered to drive miles to B&Q. You can get all your basic hardware items there, lights and lightbulbs, there is a big bathroom section upstairs. I would recommend not buying the cheaper Homebase own brands of things as they tend not to be very good quality and hard to find replacement parts for. The ‘service’ one gets there is hilarious. They used to have 3 push buttons around the store which would stat a timer as soon as they were pushed and you’d be ‘guaranteed’ to get someone over to help you within the 2 minutes. Well, they’ve taped over those buttons since no staff bothered payed any attention to it.

Homebase as ever always seem to charge a premium over similar companies such as B&Q and Wickes. The quality identical across the board. It’s a large store and they do sell absolutely everything, but for fellow DIY enthusiasts why not go elsewhere? I purchased a piece of chipboard from another retailer for £20, listed as £50 in Homebase and that didn’t even include the cost of cutting. Always surprised at how long they’ve remained in business. Shop around for a deal.
