Well I wouldn’t mind this as a local, small friendly comfortable with a range of real ales of a decent quality if a little unadventurous. Lot of fake features and that’s ok but nothing here that shouts this is a must visit national pub hence the 3 stars it’s just a very good back street boozer.

Excellent pub just off the main streets. We have a 14 year old and were turned away from High Street pubs after 6:00. This pub is filled with locals, accommodates children, wonderful staff (friendly and helpful), excellent selection of ales, and great food.
Wonderful beer garden… don’t miss it!

Another nice pub in St Albans — probably feels like the furthest escape from the city as chickens peck around you in the garden as you enjoy your beer (not in this weather mind you!). There is a 3 legged dog somewhere too, apparently, but it has always been out when I have called.
In the summer you can enjoy decent real ale in the sun drenched garden. In winter. well the inside is rather nice too, but I feel this pub is more suited to warmer weather.

Whenever I visit The White Lion its like going to visit you grandparents same old sofas, old fashioned décor and good-​goooOOOOooood homemade food! Dave, is an absolute star when it comes to traditional comfort food. He’s sheppard’s pie is better than heaven :) Good choice of ales, plus they always have a couple of guest ales on that change weekly (ish). Really nice beer garden. And lovely 3-​legged pubdog called Sammy :) Love it!

This is a really friendly pub with real ale and good food in the evenings. The large back garden is fantastic in summer and besides the large bar there is a snug bar that looks really cozy in winter. The beer is very well kept and there is always a good selection, with Black Sheep on most of the time.
They have live music occasionally during the week which is worth looking out for. This is a friendly pub close to the middle of town and I try and get down there as often as I can.
