Dont be put off by the Wetherspoons label– good local pub

Service was slow. Average pub food — and cold, average pub food. There were 4 of us eating, so not a big enough crowd to warrant keeping food waiting. Family seem to like coming here for the ‘steak night special’. It appears that you get what you pay for. Steaks were thin and overcooked. Personally, I’d fire up my own BBQ grill and get a bottle of wine from Tesco.

This is not your standard Wearherspoons its the highest quality believe me i have been all over the country where wearherspoons is ifton my safety net dye to a lack of good pubs. Alas Stevenage is the same a real beer desert apart from this one oasis. Its no wonder its in the 2013 Goid Beer Guide no other pub deserves to be. I am sorry but where i live i have 11 real ale pubs selling mutiple different beers and this includes two reknowned real ale breweries. I am sorry Stevenage but my advice to anyone visiting Stevenage is stick to this Weatherspoons outside the diirs its a barren wilderness. Saying that the beer quality is not great. Cheap though.

The Standing Order is your average Weatherspoon pub but appears popular with the locals. This may be due to the manager. I’ve had breakfast there and nothing was a bother to the manageress Curry nights on a Thursday attract many. It gives value for money to the extent that other venues in town are imitating Standing Order

Better than average Wetherspoons. Gets crowded towards the end of the week. A converted bank, hence the jokey name. I feel that it has a much better atmosphere than the Wetherspoons in the Forum in the New Town centre, but this probably reflects that the average age in the bar is closer to mine(i.e. it’s full of grumpy old gits). Suffers from the usual Wetherspoons problem that you can’t get served at busy times.

Great place to start off an evening out, the drinks are really cheap, and it has a lovely atmosphere, hoever its not only great for a night out. I went there one afternoon, and the food was very cheap, and was rather nice, not the most delicious meal ever, but plesent enough. The staff were warm and friendly, and it was busy enough to have a good atmosphere, but quiet enough that you could get a seat and hear yourself think.

I agree when you say it is a barn of a place. The best bit is at the front, it is cosier and has a nice view out to the High Street. I have eaten in here quite a few times and have never had any problems. The food is cheap as chipsno pun intended! THey do a lot of deals, such as getting a burger and chips and a drink for about £4.50. I had this particular deal last time I went and the burger was lovely. Sure, it’s not gourmet food, but at those prices I wouldn’t expect it to be.

Bank Holiday Sunday and it is pouring with rain. Walk to the pub for Veggie breakfast. It gets three stars because it was a decent size and only £2.59 and the beer was cheap. The sausages were rubbery. The tomato was yellow and rock hard and the hash browns taste of oil that had gone slightly rancid. I guess we could have been in any Wetherspoon in any town. A barn of a place, uninteresting and it took forever to get served even though it wasn’t very busy. Don’t think we will bother again.
