I used to browse Hellfire during my weekends in Glasgow as a teen, spending a good half hour raking through the badge section before leaving with an exciting new stash. I pinned them to my jacket with pride. They were usually Tim Burton characters. Or cool band badges; I just couldn’t resist. I am to badges as a magpie is to silver. Today, you’ll find a retro ‘Votes For Women’ emblem, a ‘People Make Glasgow’ pin and a small Scottish saltire. My badge tastes have certainly evolved. Black Butterfly is most definitely in the same vein as Hellfire with its gothic undertones, wacky clothes and incense burning. Whilst it isn’t exactly my cup of tea anymore, it’s nice to see something different in Stirling. From my quick visit I did notice that the t-shirts were all at a reasonable price, with many of them selling at £4.99. I didn’t spot a badge collection this time round, although I did spy a few lovely things that would make for nice gifts. Black Butterfly isn’t somewhere I’d stop by every time I’m in town but I’d certainly pop back again.
