I basically entirely concur with Emily B’s review which is good as we were there together. To repeat: 1) Busy on a Friday night — much younger and more lively crowd than I expected, had quite a party vibe but a good party vibe with good music 2) Old Tom GINGERYESHOWLONG I HAVEWAITEDFORTHISDAY. It’s basically like a ginger beer biscuit. Tried it in Buxton ages ago but have not sourced since. Although now occurs to me that as it’s a Robinsons beer it’s probably at all the Robinsons along the A6 aka where I live. 3) Toilets very small, difficult to manœuvre but hey you make some new friends in awkward circumstances 4) Great to visit post Stockport Foodie Friday

More bar-like than I was expecting from the outside, but I really enjoyed it here! It was pretty bouncing when we called in on a Friday night after Foodie Friday. Staff were on the ball and very friendly which was good. A Titanic Plum Porter and an Old Tom Ginger came to something like £7.50. The music was excellent, though I do feel like they may have stolen one of my carefully crafted teenage playlists. Heavy on Iggy Pop and David Bowie. It was too busy to find seats but we found a comfortable corner to lurk and enjoy our drinks while chatting. The toilets while clean and generally nice are very narrow! Not much room to swing a cat, shall we say. I’ll definitely call back here next time I fancy a beer in Stockport — perhaps after next month’s Foodie Friday?!

So, I liked the previous incarnation of Bakers, in that an occasional covers band is kinda fun, and it almost seemed to specialise in it. Hearing it was to be rennovated made me think, well surely it was ok as it was? So, the guys from Castle are running it, and it’s actually a pretty damn good rennovation. A modern feel, but still plenty of character shining through from the building. Visiting on a Saturday afternoon you can walk past a number of closed pubs in Stockport, which makes you appreciate it being open. It’s also pretty near to ‘Live’ which now has bands on. The venue definitely adds something to Stockport’s offering. I was here to visit the Plaza for a film festival, and met mates beforehand in Bakers. Whilst I was waiting on the comfy couches, it was great to see they had newspapers to read. My table also had a chess set on. I had a NZ hop beer called Maori, which was just the job. My friends arrived and demolished a hot dog each. Didn’t really look at the menu to see what the non-hipster food options were, but there seemed to be a selection. It was quite a lot livlier when we returned later on, and it was harder to hear each other talk. A sign of how much we liked it mind that we returned affter the visit to the Plaza! They also had Titanic Plum Porter on, which was tasty enough to convert a wine drinker! A really tasty drink. Would definitely return on the occasion that I am in the Stockport area.

I’ve only been her once but what a change. THis decore is lovely lots of wood and lots of air. There are a good lot of beers and wines. The staff are veery good and got mistakes sorted very quicky. The menu is just hotdogs but saying that all different kinds. For me the high light is the fish dog, were you have a long strip for fish instend of a hotdog. The sides a worth a look too, they do sound a little crazy but its a good thing. Will be popping back, I think it need to be included in girls night out.

Nice job Robinsons on doing something different with the Bakers and letting the guys from the Castle and Parlour take it over and transform it into what it is now. A very welcome addition to the Stockport scene and somewhere to definitely start the night on the way to the Magnet or maybe on the way back, the vibe is laid back and modern looking while still giving a nod to the old architectural style of this classic building. It was a smart decision to do something new with this place and on this Thursday evening it was fairly busy with beer loving punters. On tap there were 5 Robbies classics(we tried the Citra — ok but not quite enough citra in it for my liking and compared with the likes of Oakham ales same type) and there’s 5 guest beers on tap from exciting craft beer breweries. Sandwiched in between there’s still room for all the usual lagers and they have Brooklyn and Blue Moon on tap. Prices are fairly decent really(compared to Manchester city centre) and its refreshing to see the pricing reflected in the strength of the ale and fairly transparent in what you’re actually paying when ordering a beer. We were drinking the Great Heck hoppy wheat beer mainly — if you see it on tap somewhere then make sure you get yourself onto it, so so good! Their food menu is all about the dogs — but as opposed to hard skinned fakey American ones, these are all about proper British butchers ones which fit in well with a giant roll and some crazy toppings — I went for the classic one which was good enough for me(£6 with pickles, tasty onions etc) although you could have everything from blue cheese to meatball toppings(time to get a bit more adventurous next time I think!) Nice job Bakers — looking forward to getting back here very soon! Wifi password is: aabbcc33ee

Bakers Vaults is back and I’m excited about it! I’d always wanted to visit in in it’s previous incarnation, the building and it’s position in Stockport is very quaint — Stockport is often looked down upon by Manchester dwellers, but it arguably has better policies on keeping great old buildings than it’s near neighbour — from what I’d heard Baker’s Vaults had seen better days was a pretty run down pub. It finally shut at the end of last year & many thought that was the end for another great building and pub. Thankfully the guys responsible for Eagle Inn, Parlour and The Castle in the city centre came to the rescue, sprinkled their magic for sympathetic renovation and good bar management over the venue and have mad for an instant Stockport gem(again). Friends remarked on how smart the building is inside compared to it’s old incarnation, lovely white tiles, shifted the bar to the back and a good mix of tables, stools and snugs with sofas make for a great place to sink a few pints, chat with friends and eat decent hot dogs, all to a soundtrack from the BRILLIANT jukebox — seriously, it looks cool and has one of the best selections I’ve seen in a while, plenty of old rock ‘n’ roll, modern alternative and most things in between(I was delighted to put Tom Waits ‘What’s he building?’ on there to freak out friends). The food on offer is restricted to a variety of hot dogs, with a few sides & nibbles. The dogs themselves are more of a traditional sausage and work well with the toppings we went for, and for the smaller appetites(such as my own) they do half sized ‘puppy’ dogs, these were plenty big enough with a portion of chips and came to a reasonable £7 — not bad at all! It would be nice to see the menu expand in future, maybe reduce the number of hot dog options & add a bit of variety, but as a starting off point you can’t go too wrong — there is a veggie dog option too. In future we’ve been told to expect Jazz nights and other entertainment, so Baker’s is definitely one to go to again and again.

Having never frequented The Bakers Vault prior to its refurbishment i cant comment on the old pub, but all i can say is i do like the new one. Although Robinsons Brewery owned, the Management team are the talented gents that have breathed new life into Manchesters Castle Hotel and Gullivers, Salfords The Eagle and Chorltons Parlour. I have no doubt they’ll make a roaring success of the Bakers Vault too. Located on the market place in stockport its a busy hub during the week and when the Market is on, so ideally positioned. With its positioning and being clean, tidy and welcoming from the outside, its surely going to pick up a lot of passing trade. Inside has been completely refurbished including moving the bar(which once divided the pub in to 2 separate rooms and made it feel quite dark), it now sits quietly towards the back of the room facing everyone that walks through the door and creating a much more open and airy feel. We arrived on a busy sunday lunch time and so there was a short wait at the bar, but this didn’t matter as the staff members serving were acknowledging of the clients waiting and served them in order(a basic bar skill that is so often overlooked). I cant really comment on the beers as i’m not an ale drinker myself. so i’ll move straight on to the food. Their menu is based entirely around hot dogs, a hipster fad which is currently sweeping Manchester’s northern quarter and street food traders, so i was a little unsure how this would go down in Stockport. But i was pleased to see that they’d kept the food a little more traditional serving good hearty sausages rather than frankfurters and keeping the hipster crazy ass toppings to a minimum. All in all its a good meaty sausage dog and chips. There is also a choice of chip flavourings, the spicy ones being my favourite. The menu also allows you to order half sizes(called puppys). To be honest the puppy is plenty big enough for me, but i couldnt decide which toppings to have so i chose the 2 puppy menu option. Which meant i got to choose 2 of the half portion hot dogs for £9.50. delicious and very filling. There was a little wait on the food, but again the staff came over and made us aware of this and apologised instead of ignoring the fact and waiting for us to chase the food up. Well trained, well mannered and attentive staff make all the difference in any pub and restaurant. I have scored the pub 4 stars instead of 5 on this occasion only because i’d like to see how it grows and changes over the coming months. I’m intrigued to see if they change the menu at some point as my pub choice is often driven by food and so the menu of just hot dogs may not win through on every occasion, but i do love what they have done and hope it helps brings new customers to a well deserving Stockport. Well done for being brave and stepping outside of Manchester. Stockport has many great pubs and restaurants it just needs to show Manchester what it has to offer and i think Bakers Vault and the team behind it will help do that.
