Tootsies

I was not overwhelmed with my dinner at Tootsies. I don’t normally choose to eat at chain restaurants, but this summer, my American friend was visiting with her brother, and they wanted a picturesque setting, so I made the mathematical equation of American friends + Riverside location = Tootsies in Richmond
Its setting is magical. It takes up a large swath of the riverbank of the River Thames. Upstairs is a large balcony with about 10 tables which overlook this view. Even though it was a summers night, it was cold and windy (it was a English summer night, remember!), and thankfully there were heaters over the tables. The view, unfortunately was the best bit of the meal for me. I didn’t think much of my dinner. It wasn’t bad, it was just … forgettable. It had an absence of flavour and excitement to it. I don’t eat red meat, so I picked the puy lentil vegetarian burger, which I found to be very heavy, and carby. I had some sides with it, but couldn’t tell you what they were, because they were quite forgettable.
It’s a shame really, it could be a perfect setting to bring friends, or impress a date. I certainly wasn’t impressed though.
