When I was a kid this was known as the Hypermarket and it went through several name changes and refurbishments. These days its Asda Minworth Supercentre. I used to be one of the biggest supermarket branches around but I’m sure I’ve been in large stores recently. It’s a bigish store with with two main entrances. The one of the left is grocery store entrance leading to the fresh market area. The one on the right leads to George, the clothing brand and a large non food area. The store can get pretty busy at times so try and pick your visit carefully. The staff are pretty friendly and seem to work really hard. For a massive foreign owned business this a store with some sense of community. However I only shop here when I’m looking after my friends place. I’m not quite convinced how much of a great deal the prices are for a weekly shop. But I’m happy to go here for a top up shop.

Absolutely massive! The George range is large and has everything you need covered. you also have an opticians, pharmacy and a travel agency. The café offers a good range of meals at reasonable prices. I’ve had chips and gravy from them before and it was lovely and cheap. Only thing I have noticed is despite the large site I often find that items I require aren’t in stock‘

I have used the Asda store at Minworth a number of times, but I was so let down over THe Christmas period I will never use them again. I ordered a ‘click and collect’ grocery shop to be collected on 23rd December. It was a large order as obviously it contained lots of items for Christmas, and when it was brought out to me I was asked to check as there were a number of substitutions. I did this and changed some items at customer services. However, when I got home I realised almost half of the items were completely missing. I finally got through to customer services on the phone, who made all the right noises and I was told the missing items would be delivered to me. I was then told — the next afternoon after 3 further calls — there was no way the items could be delivered or collected and they would be refunded. Absolutely no use to me on Christmas Eve, and not what I was repeatedly told by customer services. I asked for the store to contact me, within a week, to explain why the mistake had happened(presumably someone in the warehouse found half of my order — then unpacked it without informing me???) but I heard nothing. I would be really wary of using their click and collect or home delivery service if you value reliability and customer service…

The Asda superstore at Minworth is one of the biggest Asdas/Walmarts I’ve ever been to, even compared with the ones in Texas and California — and that’s saying something, as Texas’ motto is «Everything’s bigger in Texas». In a slightly out-of-the-way location due to its size, it can be slightly tricky to get to if you don’t know the area, but sat nav has it faithfully in and so does Google maps. The parking is good, there’s plenty of it, which is the only way parking ever can be good. There are two entrances, one toward George and one nearer the tills and groceries. Annoyingly, they arbitrarily close down one of the exits later at night, but it’s not consistently the same one, and you can’t tell from the car park. And it takes a LONG time to walk to the other one(moan whinge, etc). The selection of clothing isn’t actually that good for the size of the store. I’d expect a lot more considering the electronics and groceries sections are so big they defeat even me. But this Asda carries a lot more speciality food and interesting culinary and baking items for those rarer recipes. The selection of DVDs, CDs and electronics is gorgeous, and has everything you’ll need. Ditto homewares and home appliances. The TV choices make Curry’s look like a car boot sale. There are about 25 tills, but later at night, even though the shop stays busy, there aren’t many of them open, which is a poor management decision, but queueing still isn’t terrible. A great shopping experience if you like your stores big big big with more more more.

Huge Asda(Walmart) megastore out in Minworth, has always been one of the flagship Asda stores in the midlands. Sells a huge variety of food as well as plenty of homeware, clothes, and all the other things that supermarkets sell you these days. Easy access, good facilities, plenty of parking.
