Having changed the world with my seminal work in the field of chips, I’m not sure there’s much more I can add. Suffice to say, in the case of Beeches Walk Take Away, it’s a quality establishment where cod, haddock and plaice — and yes chips — are done as well, if not better, than rivals. What really sets it apart — and yields further copy on takeaway fare — is its Greek food. This isn’t simply your doner in a tray, although, of course, that is available. No, there are also authentic starters, dips and main courses which outstrips the menus of standard chippies. How about dolmades — vine leaves stuffed with minced pork and herbs — to be followed by stifado, which offers slow-cooked beef in a red wine and onion sauce. Charcoal-grilled courses make a change from that shaved doner, with skewered kebabs or garlic sausage available with rice or in a pitta. A vegetarian menu is also available including a salad kebab which knocks the tomato and onion of a burger van into a cocked hat — just feta and olives here. A main course will set you back just shy of £6. Beeches Walk Take Away opens twice a day Tuesday to Saturday, between midday and 2pm and then from 5pm until 10.15pm. It trades from 5pm until 9.15pm on Mondays.
