With its distinctive fireplaces, stained-glass windows and decoration for which the medieval part of Westworld would pay handsomely, it always puts me in mind of the bar from which Paul Whitehouse does the«I’m afraid I was terribly drunk,» bit. Don’t worry, it’s not full of old men on the lash, there is nothing but impeccable behaviour — not bad, considering the hours are 8am to midnight. It is set within a hotel, but it really is a venue unto itself, rather like Moor Hall’s other, distinctly different bars and restaurants. It is located near to elegant restaurant The Oak Room, and although the decoration is as attractive, it is far less formal. A menu is available, but the appeal is a well-stocked bar and, if you’re looking to sneak in a couple of shorts by the back door, a very English afternoon tea is also served. Another appeal is the outdoor seating. It’s susceptible to poor weather, of course, and while the bar itself is attraction enough, I’m afraid it’s really only half an experience without the chance to step outside. I would, however, rather be here, at my funny age, on a Friday night, than listening to someone debate a handball.
