Although Sutton Park is such a huge place, it only has two play areas. You could argue that the whole park is a play area, but I’m focussing on the physically built playgrounds. Town Gate is probably the most well known and established of the two. It’s undergone many changes over the years. I miss the paddling pool personally, but at least it still has open access to the stream that runs alongside. There’s a few things to play on, the usual swings, climbing frames and slides. It’s all very safe and the ground is covered in bark clippings. It’s enclosed too. There’s a little area for larger ones but it isn’t terribly exciting. There’s a café right next door and it offers the usual café fare, ice creams, crisps etc. The nearest toilets are in the visitor centre which is a little walk away. Personally I prefer Banner’s Gate play ground but it doesn’t have the other useful facilities such as refreshments and toilets.
