Twice in the last week The George has closed early because it wasn’t busy enough for the staff to bother staying open. Of course, if you are one of the customers who have made the effort go to out then bad luck; you will have to leave. This sort of thing drives me mental and I just cannot see how they expect such behaviour to foster regular custom. Stick to the opening hours you advertise, for goodness sake.

Not the most attractive pub, but the people working here did seem nice. Good views so I hear, but I arrived after dark! 3 Brains Beers, the bitter was alright. Last food order 8:45pm.

nice location with view over bay, fish & chips and all day breakfast good, sunday lunch, veg hard(al, dente, french for threatened with boiling water) madras curry was a very bitter tomato sauce with what seemed like a mild curry powder added it came with pappadom(their desciption not mine) which was like a limp chamois leather dipped in warm oil(good value there must have been half a litre of oil on it) chips were very nice though

Conveniently located next to my B&B, I met up with my friend and he suggested we go in and have a drink. We went in and while it was busy downstairs, it wasn’t very busy upstairs. On the night that we had drinks, the bar upstairs was open, but we didn’t know that, so we waited downstairs for our drinks. There was plenty of seating and the atmosphere was nice… definitely a beach/nautical feel. The next night, I was so exhausted from my surf lessons and did not want to drive anywhere, so I thought I would just pop in for dinner here as well… I would say that The George is great for drinks, but not necessarily for meals. The menu was the same as just about every chain pub in Britain… I didn’t see anything special, so I went with the sirloin steak. The steak was tough. Everything else on the plate was pretty good… the salad was a bit puny, but it had a nice dressing on it. Service was a bit slow, but it seemed like there just weren’t enough staff to keep up with everyone. Again, moral of the story… drinks good. Food, not as good.

Salt @ The George as it’s now known is a really nice pub in the Mumbles. It has great views over the water which are especially nice from the bar on the upper level. The food is pretty good and quite reasonable for The Mumbles. Whilst it’s part of a chain(Brain’s Brewery) it feels in a world of it’s own. I especially liked the ‘wonky’ table on the left as you enter, it even has it’s own disclaimer so that you are expecially mindful of your drinks. This is a great little haven if you are exploring The Mumbles from the local area or further afield as there is parking available out front or across the road.
