This really is one of the most perfect beaches ever and i should know… it even tops Waikiki believe me! Absolutely spectacular views with an amazing stretch of beach that leads way over to Oxwich Bay. Some of my happiest memories are from this beach. From the trek through the wood to get there to the dog going missing(scary but lovely when she came back) to my mother wee’ing herself half way down to the sea! It really is a happy place. There’s no public toilets or shops but you really don’t need them Three Cliffs Bay is untouched and superb. Its called Three Cliffs by the way because of the Three Cliffs… derrr! A lovely old fashioned day for a family or perfect retreat to relax. In the winter i do a lot of writing on this particular beach the cool, sea air clearing the fluffy descriptions the valley smog justified. The dogs love this place in the winter too and as long as you pick their poo up your free to take them there, i wouldn’t recommend taking them in the summer months though… it does get quite busy. All in all a little bit of heaven on earth.

This is simply my favourite beach ever! I am not alone in this as it was nominated in a national magazine(Countrylife) as being the most scenic beach in Britain! It takes its name from the three jagged rock peaks at the eastern entrance to the Bay, which can be walked around at low tide. The Bay is reached either from Perimaen or Penard, both routes taking about 20 minutes. There are no amenities at the Bay, but this is more than made up for by the beauty of the Bay with its golden sands and clear water. I spent a happy day there with friends over the bank holiday break picnicking on the sands and paddling in the small river which runs down to the sea. At low tied you can go through a natural archway in the cliff face. When I was there a number of rock climbing enthusiasts were hanging from ropes all over the cliff face.

This is a fantastic sheltered beach I stumbled across recently while wandering around The Gower. Although it’s difficult to get to(sand dunes and the like) it’s well worth the effort. At low tide this beach is accessible from Oxwich Bay, although you’ll have to walk a long way to make use of this fact. High tide means that the only access really is through the camping ground on the cliffs above. But this isn’t usually a major problem. On the top of one of the three cliffs there is the old ruin of a castle, which makes the whole experience rather magical It always reminds me of the beach the children arrive at in Narnia(Prince Caspian), with the ruin of Cair Paravel on the hill above. It makes for some really wonderful photos, and adventures right out of Enid Blyton books. This beach is sheltered and has more sand than it does sea, so if it’s surf you’re after, it’s better to try Oxwich down the road. But if you’re out for a family picnic, then this spot cannot be surpassed.
