Evidently we were unlucky. Toby Carverys elsewhere have been a beacon of good hearty meals at a price you don’t have to think twice about. When we went to this one, the only meat they had available was a single piece of overcooked, oversalted, dried out gammon, and although they had ample vegetables available, they closed that after the first pass through — so the usual fallback of stocking up on a few extra veg to make up for it was not available. Won’t be going back to this particular Toby.

The Toby Carvery is in North Swindon, within easy walking distance of Asda Walmart. They do really good value carvery meals. You go up to the counter and choose your meat. Either you can go for just one meat, say beef, or you can try a little bit of different things, say beef, turkey and gammon. The chef will carve the meat off the joint and put it on your plate and then you help yourself to the choice of vegetables. You can have as much as you want. You can even go back for more vegetables if you want(but not more meat). They do childrens portions too. It is a good atmosphere. There is a garden outside if you go there in the summer and want to sit in the fresh air to enjoy a drink. It can get very busy, especially on a Sunday.

What can I say about this place other than I am developing a serious addiction to their food. I have only ever been on a Sunday to have their carvery, but it is out of this world amazing. They have Pork, Beef, Turkey and Gammon, along witha vegetarian option and then a selection of perfectly prepared veggies and sauces to go. You can dish as much of the veggies and sauce as you want and inevitably everyone ends up with a huge plate of food which you then struggle to finish. The cost of the cavery on a Sunday is £8 perperson and is so worth it. If you have space you can always join the queque to get some more veggies and roast potatos once you have ifnished off your first serving. I have yet to see anyone do this. There is almost always a waiting list on a Sunday which is testament to the good food on offer, but this wait is worth it, as the food and atmosphere in this pub is lovely. The deserts menu is also something to be reckoned with and if you do decide to order desert after your mammouth meal, then make sure you have space as they bring you huge portions, also very very tasty! During the week, along witha redudced selection on the cavery they have other specials on offer, but as I have said before |I have not been during the week and hnec cannot make a comment on these, other than if its as good as teh cavery on Sunday then you will get value for money. Great pub, amazing food, fantastic atmosphere.
