Situated just off the High Street, this newer superstore had been relocated from the middle of town a few years back. But it’s hard to miss, a brown brick-built structure that tries to blend in with surroundings, but has a large green logo, and is one of two cooperative stores in Tranent; with more dotted around the Lothian’s. My main gripes are and have always been since shopping here that not all products have price labels with them; this is either caused by misplacement, late arrival for checking so just stick them anywhere or just sheer can’t be bothered? Also lapse of food standards, empty shelves, broken freezers with water on the floor, restocking cages at the same time all over, busy closed or broken till points. Or worse if a family member is working on the till, means I could not get served-period until someone else scans items! But it has free parking, a coffee/tea room(usually empty), a photocopier(only one of two in town), an ATM(that constantly runs out of paper receipts), a taxi service, fuel station & bus stop nearby. Sometimes a deal or two, mostly on alcohol, some selected products. I have never loved shopping here, but it is open until ten most nights which has been extremely useful in the past. There was word of relocation again to the far end of town nearest Haddington, but I am unsure what is going into the eyesore site that used to be the Tranmare Hotel. But with monthly increases to food, and generally expensive products all round, coupled with my membership card points not updating properly, the days I shop at this superstore may be numbered? But overall it’s a Meh, as there are better options a short distance away where they do have better standards, have the items you need, items labelled, and family members don’t work there!
