If the sun is out and you have a bit of time to enjoy a stroll down the beach front I would be very surprised if you did not have an enjoyable time at Troon beach. It’s fairly simple and not at all fancy, bit it is a great place to get out the city and enjoy some sea air. It has all the usual things you expect at the beach like ice cream for sale and bouncy castles to keep kids amused. One great thing is there is no cars running alongside the promenade. So kids(or dogs) can have a bit of freedom to run or cycle(my dogs loves a cycle) about freely and the parents do not need to worry about traffic rushing by. Pleasant place for a weekend visit. Definitely worth a look if you have not been before.

Troon beach is so good for a summer stroll or even a paddle and in winter is great for blowing cobwebs away. Views are superb out to Arran and Ailsa Craig and can be spectacular at sunset. The birdlife is always interesting on the tideline and the kite surfers in windy weather are all well worth watching. Dogs are not allowed on sand during summer months but can be walked along the prom. Ice creams in summer from the kiosk and in winter cosy coffee shops are not too far away! This is on our list of activities and our visitors have loved the beach in all weathers and ideal for children to let off steam since the play park area, redesigned over recent years, is fantastic with its galleon!

Part of the 100 mile long Ayrshire Coastal Path which links beaches and promenades; this is a great place to walk(even if just a mile or two) on a pleasant day! Alas, we visited in the drizzle and strong winds recently and, to be honest, didn’t do a lot of walking! The huge beach is easily accessible(the Esplanade follows the full length of the beach) always seems well looked after, and is often used for windsurfing. It’s a great place for families too, with rock pools to explore and a wide and safe beach for playing and picnics. Dogs are banned May-September. Troon Yacht Haven is nearby as are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants, especially at the South Beach which is close to the town centre. There’s a car park at the north end, on the site of the old swimming pool, and plenty of benches along the length of the Esplanade.
