The OTHER Trinity Centre. Wakefield must be really frustrated that Leeds has stolen its shine again and has ripped off its name too. Trinity is a word I associate with Wakefield though. Anyway, this shopping centre I have to say has made this area of the city look more attractive as I can remember this area being a pretty dead area of the city. Amazing link to the bus station too. It’s just across the road! Where this place trumps over the Trinity in Leeds is that its easy to get around and seems more organised. If you don’t want fuss and just want to get around then this place is better as Leeds Trinity is an annoying labyrinth. The Wakefield Trinity also has a supermarket(Sainsburys), which the Leeds one doesnt have(and there is a serious lack of supermarkets in Leeds City Centre which depending on your views is a good or bad thng). The roof however, which supposed to protect shoppers from the rain absolutely sucks. Least the one in Leeds actually protects from the rain. Wakefield Trinity just isn’t interesting enough. The choice of shops don’t capture my imagination and The big boys seem to have better stock in their Leeds stores. That seems unfair to Wakefield, though I can see where the businesses are getting at, not wanting to be adventurous like they are in Leeds, a city where people will buy any trendy tat. There isn’t enough places to eat and socialise either. Leeds Trinity recognised that shopping is more than about shopping. For many people(especially some women) shopping is a social activity. I mean Leeds Trinity has lots of restaurants in it(a wider variety), a cinema, and even a bar. What does this place have? A Greggs(like there’s demand for another one), Costa(lots of these again), Esquires(nobody cares about Esquires), burger restaurant(boring), Pizza Express and a Chinese buffet(boring). Like those are gonna get me staying out of Leeds haha. This place will not stop people from going to Leeds. Wakey has still got a battle shaking off the ‘poor mans Leeds’ image. Maybe this place could get one over Leeds Trinity by having more independents put up stalls in the centre? Display artwork or have an art event(The Hepworth is round the corner for gods sake)? Another event? Sorry Wakey!

I now declare the delightful new shopping centre well and truly open) What a very exciting day for Wakefield and the Yorkshire region. Most stores are open with a few to follow soon. There is a real vibe and buzz around the place. It is far bigger than better than expected and has a lovely big Sainsbury’s and Debenhams.
