Le Spice is upstairs so not so easy to spot and gets good reviews on other sites. The ambiance is very nice, fairly intimate, quiet with no music playing, white tablecloths, no complaints. Service is good, friendly, and professional, but make sure to flag them down if you need them as they don’t seem to visit the table too often(but did come by to make sure everything was good). Prices are reasonable, fairly typical. The food, yes, that’s why you are reading this. The food is good but not great. It’s your typical Indian with not too many special or unusual dishes, but everything is presented very nicely, a definite step up from the usual. One standout for us was the naan. £2 for plain, and only £2.20 for the special naans. The were nicely charcoaled on the outside, tender and tasty inside, just how we like them. The onion bhaji was typical. The lamb dupiaza, madras hot in my case, was plenty spicy with the onions well cooked, but the lamb was a little on the chewy side. G/F got the cod in special sauce, the cod cooked perfectly, the sauce tasty, but a lot too much oil swimming around. Both of our entrees were very large portions and a good value. I would probably give the food 3.5 stars and the rest 4 stars, a fairly typical Indian, dependable, well presented, nice atmosphere. You probably won’t go away disappointed and you probably won’t go away raving about your best Indian meal ever, a solid 3.5 to 4 star Unilocal restaurant.
