Winstons Fish Bar

I think these other reviews must be out of date. It was really pretty good fish and chips, especially for down south where by and large they don’t really know how to cook it. Chips were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and not greasy. The fish was a generous sized portion, the batter was lovely and crisp, and had a good flavour.
At almost a tenner for fish, chips and peas I think it could have been cheaper but the place is on the seafront opposite the pier so what do you expect? I could have eaten for half that nearby but in the end I was glad I opted for quality because that’s what I got.
Oh, and the staff were nice too.

Maybe it’s just me but I was truly not impressed. We came to this place based on a recommendation that this was a great place for fish and chips. It’s right off the boardwalk and was pretty busy despite the cold, rainy weather. I ordered the fish and chips of course and while the chips were okay and not overly soggy, the fish just tasted very bland. If it wasn’t for the flavor from the ketchup I don’t think I would have been able to eat as much as I did. I kept eating in hopes of finding just a hint of some sort of flavor hidden deep inside the fish batter but unfortunately for me all I got was bland and more bland. I did taste a bit of my friend’s shrimp and chips and it appeared that at least her shrimp was seasoned well. If this place is known for their fish and chips then they have enough practice to make sure it’s done right. Unfortunately for me, I left feeling very disappointed with the absolute lack of flavor in my fish.

Despite the queues and the wonderful fish n chips aroma, i was left with a grisly unpleasant saveloy and cold chips.

Tried this restaurant come takaway as my usual place was closed for the season. Not that impressed with the fish and chips. The batter was very dissapointing and the fish was limp and tasteless. the chip were ok, but its difficult to ruin chips.
The res over the the road the Oxford Corner is far better if you like traditional fish and chips and the batter used is to die for.

winstons is the best!!! yes there might be a 30min wait at busy times but thats because everything is cooked fresh there must be over 150 seats there and people still que that says everything to me love the food love the service and the new look is great thumbs up to you guys

45 minute wait for food. Staff rather offhand. Will not go back and would tell others to avoid. The are much better Fish & Chips shops in Weston Super Mare.

never had fish and chips from winstons until today,
the male person who served me was very rude to me, in front of other customers, he said loudly why are you useing a mobility scooter, you walk better than i do, this was based on taking a few steps from my scooter to the counter.
i dont think he could base this comment on any medical knowledge,
after all hes only serving fish and chips.

needless to say the fish and chips went in the bin, as i was very upset.

This is the place we buy our chips from to sit on the beach with. It’s ok, quite good. We always enjoy it!

Typical seafront fish and chips, not particularly good. Much better one in Meadow Street

Went out my way to visit. Fish cooked fresh but when served plate was cold and so were chips. Will not be going again.

Great fish and chips, shame about the really long wait and poor service, considering it was a busy Sunday in August you think they would get more staff on… waited 15 mins as only one person serving on the counter, then after had ordered and paid waited another 15 mins for the food. Behind the counter a few of the cooks just hanging about joking — shame as good food but would not go back.

Had lunch at Winston’s yesterday on a trip to Weston with my daughter. I had haddock, chips and mushy peas and it was delicious-​the fish was superb, the batter crisp and the chips cooked to perfection. The staff were attentive too. I would recommend Winston’s to anyone looking for ‘proper’ fish and chips.

It is very busy in the summer as it stands out from other shops and is located near the seafront. However, queues at peak tourist times make it a bad place to buy your food. It is very open, so when it is busy it is not too bad. The bad side is they do not cook their food fresh, but it does cut those queues a little. As it is located near the seafront they have jacked their prices over the value of others. But the food itself is pretty good, and they offer a variety.

The food is adequate rather than fantastic. The staff are brusque but efficient during the Summer but much more friendly out of season. The restaurant is always very clean and pleasant and there is an outside eating area as well. The nicest place to eat on Weston seafront.

Opposite the motorbike park on the seafront, easy to get to and a quick walk to the town centre.
You always get good service, and the portion sizes mean two can share large chips and both have more than enough. Prices aint bad too.

I always have to go to Winstons when I have a day out at Weston-​Super-​Mare! The fish and chips are delicious, whether you eat in or take them away to sit on the seafront. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you get. The fishtanks around the restaurant are nice to look at, too.
They often have ‘fish and chip meal deal’ offers on for pensioners if that’s any use to anyone!

If you go there in the summer, it’s not always as good, because it’s so busy, but in the winter, it’s great.
We have been using them for years now, all the staff are always willing and helpful, and never had a bad meal yet. There is outdoor seating for the summer, with umbrellas, and the tables and outdoor area is always nice and clean.
