If you like good food but don’t like the theatrics of fine dining then you could do a lot worse than this place. I selected three courses from the main menu whilst my partner choose three courses from the special menu that is a retrospective celebration of their 25th Anniversary. The selections available on both menus was varied with nice additional touches such as alcohol free mocktails for drivers. The food was fresh, of a high quality and well portioned, to the extent that you could enjoy the three courses without feeling stuffed to the gunnels. Preparation and presentation were above normal and it’s clear that the kitchen team know what they are doing. The only course that was anything close to a bit of a let down was my dessert, which was basically a slice of loaf cake with a couple of slices of «caramelised» oranges — they treated for all the world like a couple of slices of regular quality oranges to me. Whilst not cheap the regular menu isn’t overly expensive either. A fair price for good food. The 25th Anniversary menu was great value though at £25 for 3 courses and a glass of perfectly acceptable fizz. The only changes I would make would be to update the printed menus which would be more at home in a pub. Also I’d increase the space separating the tables to allow diners to feel a touch more secluded. The restaurant is decidedly informal, far from huge and a little on the snug side for a truly intimate meal — but it is definitely a small, good quality restaurant right at the heart of Weymouth’s quayside and one that I hope to visit again. **TIPS** Book! Even on a Tuesday night at the beginning of May it was busy, obviously loved by the locals. Also, a bit of a strange practice, but they don’t allow you to add a tip to your card payment, so have some cash on hand if you want to leave a thank you.

Mallans is one of the two top restaurants in Weymouth the other being Perrys. The current owners have run it for many years with some of the staff being family members. It offers a set price for a good a la carte 2 or 3 course menu with supplements for special catches or meat. A decent meal for two with wine will cost £70−80 but you will feel you have had your money’s worth. The owners are not overly friendly or chatty but the food speaks for itself!

This restaurant is lovely. So far the best place I have been in Weymouth. The food is fantastic which lots of local seafood and a wonderful shellfish platter which I highly recommend as well as plenty of veggie options. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is good. Lots of lovely wine choices too. Really enjoyable experience. The restaurant is situated(though it was very dark and raining the night I went) on a kind of inlet where there are lots of boats(parked? what is the word??). The setting is very picturesque and Mallams occupies a small buiding within this area. The décor as you enter is cosy, with plenty of flattering candelight and nautical references like rope and vintage artwork of the Weymouth area. We were ina large group but this restuarant would be fabulous for an inimate evening with close friends or a partner. The menu is wonderful — one of those where you can’t decide what to choose and have to spend half an hour narrowing down. Starters varied from pâté, smoked salmon, scallops to lovely mini crab cakes. Mains were gnocchi with gorgonzola and cream(I kept away from this but I SO wanted it), cod fillet with ciabatta crust, sea bass and one each of a lamb, beef and chicken option. Desserts were more interesting than amazing in my opinion — I had a passable Bailey’s cheesecake and a colleague had the mean looking cheese board both of which were OK but not up to the standard of the main courses. Overall a lovely evening, I would definitely return. (As this was a work event I can’t tell you the price but from the prices on the menu i’d say you may come away with a little bit of change from £100 for two people with water and wine)
