Smugglers Inn

Had a lovely dinner here with colleagues. Sadly we arrived after dark, I’m sure the view is lovely. I made the uninspired choice of bangers and mash, and was so glad that I did! The sausage was nicely flavored, the potatoes were perfectly prepared, and the sauce served with them was simply wonderful. I had a special of spicy shrimp on toast for starter, it was good too though a couple of the shrimp were chewy. Well worth a stop.

The Smugglers Inn in Osmington Mills is one of those tucked-​away places you’re pleased to have found. Everyone who goes there has had to make the effort to find it, located at the end of a narrow lane, where beyond it jagged rocks meet the crashing waves of the English Channel.
The olde-​worlde pub nestles in a dip surrounded by tall trees, and has cliffs rising to the South West Coast Path on one side. It has a charming outdoor drinking and dining space, which, perhaps due to it’s unforgiving geography, is largely paved over, rather than a verdant garden.
Inside, the pub is all crooked beams and exposed wood. The wood does feel a bit overly stripped back, and this has given the pub more of a gastro/​restaurant feel the emphasis is most definitely on dining in the present day, rather than feeling the atmosphere of the building’s several hundred years over an ale. However, if this is your thing you’ll love it! The food is very good, promptly delivered, bar staff friendly, and faciliities clean.

Another picturesque English pub filled with revelers over the holidays. Indeed it was a former haunt of pirates, back when ship-​jacking was not only around, but endorsed by the Crown as long as it was another country’s ship.
Great selection of ales, beers and wines. Try the Badger’s Pickled Partridge ale. Very nice on the palate.
Food portions are substantial. I can vouch for the venison sausages but the pastry in my tablemate’s chicken and ham pie was a bit stodgy for my taste.
Lots of muddy shoes and wellies at the door when we went, attesting to the cliff path just above the pub. Apparently, you can walk from Swanage to Cornwall if you’re mad enough.
Plenty of tables in the garden that probably get full up in summer. The sailing portion of the 2012 Olympics will take place right across the water so book your patio table early. (But I doubt they’ll chop down the trees for a better view.)

Not sure if its changed hands recently. The parking was always free and being in the in such a beautiful location I always went for lunch and then a walk along the coast.
Arriving yesterday they are now charging £5.00 to park for 3 hours and £10.00 to park for 6 hours. £5 is refundable if you buy a meal. If you dont pay theres a warning of getting wheel clamped.
I always visited here to get away from it all and enjoy the simple peaceful place. The owners have now instigated this expensive and complicated parking fee. And it in effect if you want to eat in the pub and go for a walk its going to cost you £5.00 to park
Theres a narrow lane that approachs the pub which has very few parking restrictions so now everyone parks down this lane to avoid paying. There was quite a lot of congestion with cars travelling to and from the location.
I had a ploughmans lunch for £7.95 which wasnt worth the cost containing just a 3^rd of an apple, half a soft baguette and 3 small slices of cheddar and a spattering of chutney.
Although I did see burger and chips being delivered which looked a good portion.
Shame about someone deciding to make a quick buck on the parking. It ruins the simplicity of such a beautiful rural location.

Had a very enjoyable lunch here, sitting outside in the garden. We parked at nearby Ringstead Bay and walked the mile and a half along the South West coastal path. Friendly staff and good food

Möchte mich Norbertjaeger anschließen. Es ist wirklich ein schöner Platz. Unser Baguette wurde nach der Bestellung zwar vergessen, ging dann aber ganz schnell und schmeckte auch sehr gut.
Von hier aus sollte man unbedingt einen Teil des Coastwalk laufen. Ist sehr sehenswert.

The name gives this attractive pub — nestled in the rolling hills, literally a stone’s throw from the sea — a frisson of outlaw-​danger. Out in the wilds of Dorset, it’s easy to imagine the nocturnal nefarious behaviour of yesteryear. Still, the pub’s worth the drive to, and there’s the opportunity of a coastal walk along the cliffs too, to build up an appetite for lunch over a couple of glasses.

What an amazing place! If you love the English pub culture, ales and good food, visit the Smugglers Inn. It’s a very very old pub with a lot of great beers and ales. We had lunch there for less than 8 Pounds (2 courses). Food was delicious and service very friendly and the view from their parking area is amazing.

Great olde worlde pub in a lovely setting. I won’t repeat all the praises written before which I happily agree with.
Just a few additional remarks.
Their separate restaurant has a much higher standard than many in and around Weymouth.
Real ale drinkers also mostly find a nice (changing) selection of handpumped beer.
The service in the restaurant and at the bars is very friendly.
It’s just a bit difficult to get there, especially if you don’t have a car or you don’t want to drink and drive. There is no public transport but I can guarantee the pub is worth taking a taxi from Weymouth (just don’t forget to arrange a pick-​up for the journey back!).
During the day you can walk over the cliffs but it’s not so easy and can get pretty muddy.

This pub was recommended by friends for the nearby beach and the lovely setting. The building itself is full of character, and has space out the front for children to roam within view of the tables.
It’s busy in summer, but a friendly, happy busy, great for relaxing and people watching. Popular with coast-​path hikers.
Food was nice and plenty of it. Cost was reasonable too. We will definitely go there again.

recently went there on a trip down weymouth! lovely lovely food with a nice warm atmosphere. me and my boyfriend had a nice romantic dinner there.

This pub has an interesting history and is a great place to stop by for a Sunday lunch. The food isn’t anything special, but it’s simple and good enough because the pub is just by the sea at Osmington Mills beach so is in a beautiful setting with gorgeous views. It dates back to the 13^th century and at some point during its history the leader of a group of smugglers made this his home — hence the name :) So quite a cool place to come for a pint of something, or a spot of lunch on a chilly Autumnal afternoon in Dorset.
