I was informed by the fiancée that Forte tearooms(as listed on Unilocal) has transformed into Forte Kitchen We had brunch here on Sat before heading off to the new Star Wars movie. They do also serve different menus for lunch and dinner The fiancée had a full English while I had the smoked mackerel, slow roast plum tomato, spinach, poached eggs and toasted sourdough toast from the ‘healthy’ part of the menu The full English included some nice flavoursome sausage and bacon. My combo was nice and may have been lifted further something else sharp in the mix If Unilocal had half stars, they would get a 4.5

We stopped here for some lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the selection and popularity of this place. Located on the second floor, first floor if you are from the UK, it was hard to tell what the restaurant was like from the street. About a dozen tables and a responsive staff. There were a lot of choices for tea and sandwiches. We had the Welsh Rarebit which was nice along with some tea and scones. The ambiance was A-OK and otherwise there was not a lot that was special. Reasonable prices and the selection were the main motivation. That and we were hungry.

Secret Winchester tip! This place is actually upstairs, so you’ll have to find the small entrance opposite of WH Smith’s back door. Once upstairs, this is a lovely small and characterful place with good food.
