We had a good and cheap lunch here. One of the best value lunch set menus I’ve had in a while. The fish was fresh and nicely grilled. The seafood spaghetti was slightly disappointing though — the squid rings were tasteless.

Beautiful restaurant nestled in Winchester. I think I made a mistake on what I ordered though as I had the whole fish of the day(Plaice– Flat fish like a flounder), meaning skin on and all… thought it would be skinless and it was lacking flavor as it was dressed in a flavorless butter. The fish could improve with a more favorable sauce and of course to have the skin removed. I was expecting something more along the lines of sole with butter and caper sauce :( For starters I had an amazing crab cake(s) which where light fluffy balls of crab breaded and fried. The starter was small. The 2 course and 3 course menus are very reasonably priced. I would give Loch Fyne another chance. I tried my mothers Cullen Skink which is a smocked haddock chowder, it was beautifully done. My mothers, Bradan Rost Salad with kiln roasted salmon was far better then my «fish of the day» meal. The roasted salmon had an amazing smokey taste. This place is worth a visit.

I had the smoked haddock which is the item that has been on the menu from their start(according to the waiter). It was quite good, but you’ll want to order a veggie with it; otherwise it will just be fish and starch. I decided to save room for dessert instead. The big tip is if you eat fish and skin and all be forewarned that they don’t fully descale the haddock! Apparently the English don’t eat the skin. It took me a few seconds too long to figure that out…

The girlfriend and I were feeling famished after playing badminton and we liked the look of the dinner menu at Loch Fyne and wandered in It’s a big place with an interesting mix of old exposed beams and modern light and glass. I love the centrepiece being a display of fantastic fresh seafood and the open kitchen. A nice touch that our waiter gave us a little tour of the fresh fish on offer One of my must order dishes is a good French fish soup, which should be thick and packed full of crustacean and piscine flavour. The version here came with the traditional grated Gruyère cheese and a slightly less traditional and slightly odd croûton, which had been topped with salt cod brandade. I liked their attempt to do something different but I wished the croûton was more crispy The pea risotto starter tasted a lot better than it looked when it first arrived — reminiscent of the flavours of spring For mains, I had the best dish of the day — a top class seafood tagliatelle. All the seafood was perfectly cooked, not an easy feat with the different elements needing different lengths of cooking. The pasta was silky and there was just the right amount of seafood flavour Strangely, the only dish to disappoint was the fish and chips. It was just OK though, y girlfriend mused later that perhaps, she should have gone for tempura batter rather than traditional batter A solid choice for food in Winchester

For someone who has been visiting the original Loch Fyne Oyster Bar for years and is a huge fan of the place, it’s inevitable that any of their offspring branches are going to be held up against that benchmark standard for comparison Happily, this Winchester branch did not disappoint. The entrance looks more like an old-fashioned English pub, with its half-timbered façade and bar area; it could easily be mistaken for a Wetherspoons or something. It’s once you get further inside that the full cunningness of this conversion becomes clear. Just around the corner is the fish counter, all tiles and ice, where you can pick your poisson of choice and even buy some to take home with you. Beyond that, the rear is a much more spacious affair, arranged around a central courtyard with a long wing stretching farther back that can accommodate larger groups. The meal quality was exceptional, as was the service from the friendly and courteous staff. I had crabcakes to start, which were not terribly large but were very tasty; and followed that up with an artichoke and mushroom risotto — for once, I decided not to go with the fish! I adore artichoke and it seemed too good an opportunity to pass up. My question about dairy content was quickly answered after the waitress went to check with the chef, and it was served without the usual parmesan slices topping. I was tempted to try the sorbet for dessert, but a last-minute resurgence of willpower prevailed, so it turned out to be a very reasonable pre-theatre meal. Excellent value for money, excellent food, great ambience, great service. Love it!

I went here for dinner one night and was greeted by a welcoming host. He explained the history of the restaurant and the location. I had the skate daily special here and was pleased with the taste and proportion of the food. Also had the crème brûlée for dessert, which was just standard. Overall a thumbs up.

Visited this restaurant a couple of weeks ago for lunch with a group of friends– we left hugely, hugely impressed. All of us opted for the lunchtime three courses for 11:95(!!) I have to say not only was this excellent value, but the food on offer was outstanding! Gong al la Carte would have naturally been more pricey, though from the range and quality of food on offer and in comparison to other restaurants in the Winchester area, I do not think the food can be deemed ‘expensive’ at all! Where this restaurant really came into its own however, was in the service we received; the best I have experienced in a long while: friendly, attentive, excellent timing– and very, very accommodating(we were a rather large group and they fitted us in very well). It’s rare to stumble upon such a gem as this and I will certainly be returning!

Loch Fyne is a large chain of 30 or so seafood restaurants scattered throughout the UK. This particular branch is located in an historic(over 500 year old) building on one of the main streets in Winchester City Centre. From the outside I thought it would be something unique for dinner, but alas it’s your typical mass chain prepared food. Several of the dishes even have a trademark next to them on the menu — unique this place is not. However, the food at Loch Fyne is fresh… it’s one of those places where you can see the freshly caught fish on display over ice. I had the baked sea bass(it’s usually prepared whole, but upon requested they filleted for me) which was cooked just right however it was doused in way too much butter. Service was friendly, and this might be a good place to bring the family and your kids(it’s child friendly)…there were many a pram out on a Friday night.

I try to make a point of stopping here, they have always been perfect. We arranged a large group(30?) and it was all handled extremely well. Cheers.

Rumoured to be expensive but I found an extensive menu with items to suit all pockets, relaxed and very friendly service and the food was excellent. Fish based menu, all very good quality and it is quite clearly their intention to be the best. Very enjoyable, the prawn cocktail, and lobster were highly recommended. Very enjoyable evening out and whole heartedly reccommended.

One of the few seafood restaurants in Winchester — besides sushi. There’s a sushi restaurant across the street that’s opening up. Anyways, from the outside this place looks like a hole in the wall — at first I actually thought this place was a pub. I go in and they have a bar and they seat you past the bar which is nice. They have lobster, oyster and seabass out on display signifying that this is truly a seafood restaurant. What I ordered: Sicilian lemonade — which was actually lemonade not sprite. Oysters — it came with this delicious mix of sauce — it was almost like salsa but more refined. Mussels — they give you a shit ton of mussels in a plate and a little water bowl with a lemon in it to rinse the tips of your fingers when you’re finished. Salmon and Seasonal Vegetables — The salmon portion was a bit small but I was already pretty full from the previous courses. I didn’t go all out on this one — I saw lobster & steak on the menu but I didn’t go for it as I’ve been gorging myself with food for the past few days. The setting is nice and the people are really attentive to their patrons. They also have outside seating if you want and it seems pretty nice out there but I sat inside. Pretty chill place — I give 5 stars because it seems like it’s one of those hidden treasures in Winchester.

Loch Fyne serves an extensive list of fish dishes, and the wine list is pretty extensive too! Always really good value, this place is really light and spacious. If you go in good weather try and sit outside in the courtyard, which is stuated in the middle of the restaurant. It is a little bit more expensive than other places nearby but that is basically down to them supplying quality fish — which is generally more anyway. If you want something cheaper they quite often do a fish and chips menu one week night which is really tasty too. Good friendly service.
