Used to be a great place to eat and socialise. Has gone really down hill since they were taken over. Food is awful and the only good service comes from the younger staff! If you want a decent meal Find somewhere else!

I took my family for Sunday lunch on 23.01.11 as a treat for my mother-in-laws 91st. birthday. We opted for the roast Sunday lunch without a starter. The lunch when it arrived was very nice with good sized portions, i say when it arrived as we were kept waiting approximately 25 minutes from ordering to being served. On completion of the main course we had to wait another 20⁄25 minutes for the table to be cleared and then only after requesting to staff to do so. We then had to wait another 15⁄20 minutes to order a sweet. This did not materialise until I told a member of the staff to forget the sweet order and just bring me the bill. This arrived ‘post haste’. I paid the bill and left this establishment feeling fully discussed at he service and lack of an apology by the staff. Admittedly the restaurant was busy, but when other diners arrive, are served and leave whilst we were left trying to have the table cleared it shows a lack of courtesy to other guests. I feel that my next visit to this establishment is a long time off.

I love this pub. My grandparents have a framed sketch of it and it is truly as picturesque as that sketch would have you imagine; a huge old tree stands to the left often surrounded by cows staring sullenly with a backdrop of the Welsh mountains. Inside is just as quaint as Irby village itself. The atmosphere is always great; non-locals are more than welcome! In fact it’s often vistors or people passing through calling in for a hearty meal found in here. The menu is pretty standard but the food is not average;it’s very tasty and reasonably priced with the offers available.

Once a year I frequent small leafy village of Irby for cricketing purposes sampling what little it has to offer besides Irby cricket club. Well it has Anchor Inn for starters. As far as country pubs go, I really do find it difficult to distinguish between them apart from aesthetically of course. Anchor Inn we have used on numerous occasions as a one stop dink shop, musing once over whether or not to try out some of their fuel offerings. It was a shame it wasn’t we’ve never been on Sundays when they do a sunday roast 2 courses for under £9. I’ve been told the carved roast beef is rather special. Maybe next time perhaps. It’s also a rather puddingtastic place serving up some decent sweet offerings. On the menu they have Toffee Apple Pie or Clotted Cream Cheesecake, Chocolate & Vanilla Sundae or Warm Chocolate Brownie, Lemon Meringue Pie or Melting Chocolate Fondant, White Chocolate & Mascarpone Cheesecake and Sticky Toffee Pudding. Something to take anyone’s fancy eh? I am not really ethanol inclined so simpler things such as puddings float my boat in homely country pubs such as the Anchor Inn. So if your boat has floated to Irby set up anchor here, you’ll have a merry old time staying«Inn» here.

I think that this place is my favourite Wirral pub, it’s very friendly, it has a huge beer garden and it has lots of comfy seating and good food. My mother and I used to go here on Sunday evenings and enjoy a nice meal and a bottle of wine in a respectable venue with great staff! The food was always great, the staff were very friendly and the beer was always top notch. We went here on Xmas day last year and the place was full to the rafters, we only had a drink but after seeing the Xmas dinner we wished we had had it there! They serve a lovely pint of Fosters and in terms of food I’d recommend the mango and goats cheese salad, the rump steak and the beer battered fish and chips. There’s an outside smoking area and a fantastic beer garden available to use at your leisure!

Got a fantastic offer on at the moment all through January 2 for 1 which is really good for The Anchor as they only do the 2 special nights normally during the week. I had the Chicken and Bacon Salad which was as good as i normally have when i go in and my husband had Gammon steak and that was the same size Steak as he normally has so they hadnt cut down on size even though they had put them on the 2 for 1 offer, so very good value for money. Pub is clean and tidy, friendly staff most of the time just a few grumpy ones in there. The only down side is you never know if the pub is open until 11pm or midnight and its a nuisance if you have gone out with friends and tell them to book the taxi for midnight and then the bell goes at 10.50 pm it depends on what mood the manageress is in apparantely!!!

This is one of a chain of pubs(Ember Inns) that provides decent food, decent portions at pub prices — whereas many pubs in the area seem to charge restaurant prices these days, The Anchor has baguettes/desserts/starters for around £3−4 and main meals from £6−9 depending on what you have. It was recently redecorated after many years, and has a nice modern but cosy feel to it. There is a large beer garden which has many tables and chairs and an area for kids to play. There is a nice big fireplace inside which is really cosy on a cold day. All in all a great pub :)
