The Sweet Arcade does so much more than it says on the tin. Its previous name was ‘Woodhall Spa Video’ and I worked here one summer. My friend’s mum owns and runs the shop and I come here every time I visit my parents. Half of the shop is devoted to DVD rentals, with the latest releases on offer along with some classics you won’t find in Blockbuster, like ‘The Boy Who Could Fly’, and ‘Mac and Me’ and all the other ones I watched when I was little and cried heaps at. The other half is like some kind of sweetie emporium. There are hundreds of them, from chocolate bars to penny sweets to old fashioned jars of cough candy. It’s easy to spend a couple of quid in here on white mice and strawberry laces, om nom. The shop also stocks Pokemon cards and the like, and other game-y sort of things that I don’t really understand but children probably do. And ice creams.
