Bennett’s Café(which is the only establishment with tables directly on the paving in front of the Minster) serves a concise but excellent menu of locally sourced and organic foods at surprisingly inexpensive prices. The owner takes pride in ensuring that only the best quality foods, cakes and coffees are served, and you can really tell. All food is made on the premises, including the rather fantastic cakes! This is a great place to go to get a real Yorkshire breakfast(they do them all day long) as well as regional specialties like Parkin(a dense and spicy ginger cake) and Yorkshire scones. They also make the best coffee I have been able to find in York! Bennett’s may look touristy from the outside(especially given the location) but the place is pure local magic(not to mention having possibly the most amazing view in the city).
