I used to go into the Nice Things gift shop when I was younger with my Grandma and I used to love it. They sell(or at least used to sell) a really nice range of gifts and fun things for children(I always used to get one of those worms on an invisible string) there is also a café where we used to have an ice cream which was nice. The shop is located in Helmsley which is a lovely place.

Just had a family lunch. Old school menu using the cheapest ingredients. Fatty bacon, economy mince, white sliced bread etc @tourist prices. Quick if curt service. Seems popular with oldies tho. Very dated.

This shop is in the historic market place. It has a café on the ground floor with a good menu and an icecream cabinet as you go in. There is a gift shop on the top floor. I went in once whilst waiting to go somewhere on the bus. I saw a vase with delicate but fragile flowers added to it with filigree wire. i bought it to give as a gift but it was only wrapped in flimsy paper. I paid and asked if i could collect it in the afternonn after the bus tirp. The woman was horrilble, she launched into a sort of tirade about the stock she had to sort etc. and said I couldn’t possilbly expect her to look after it. I took it with me but she spoiled my day and I haven’t been back since. This is bad service in a town which relies quite a bit on tourism. I hope they have someone more pleasant now as this was a few years ago and they do stock some nice stuff(and good icecream)
