Grand Shanghai will take you back to the olden days of fine dining in Shanghai with a live entertainment. Theresa Teng songs covers. Romantic dimmed chandeliers. Fancy bathroom. OK service. We ordered quite a lot of dishes! It was our last meal in Singapore so our relatives wanted to go all out! Here is what we got: jellyfish appetizer Peking duck Roasted crispy chicken Salted egg fried prawns Sweet and sour pork Shredded chicken with beancurd Shark fin soup Winter melon soup Crab fried noodle Mango pudding Mango sago with pomelo It honestly felt like a Chinese wedding dinner. Minus the lobster, fish, and abalone. I was seriously considering having my wedding here haha. Anyway, food was pretty good. Typical Chinese food. My favorite was the Peking duck and the salted egg fried prawns. Mmmmm. Yummm! I would come here again for special occasions. Service was good too! There were a lot of ladies taking good care of us.

My family’s favourite Chinese restaurant Ambiance — old town Shanghai, modern retro with Chinese/Taiwanese singers singing old Chinese songs. The older generation would probably love this. My grandparents certainly do. The main attraction for my family though is the food. Been here more than 10 times and almost everything we have ordered has been really good. Tonight we had the following dishes: Black fungus in vinegar(cold appetizer) — mainstay for our family. Simple dish but oh so delicious and refreshing. 10⁄10 Cold bitter gourd(cold appetizer) — refreshing and very bitter. I don’t personally like this as I don’t like bitter gourd, but it’s one of my father’s favourites. 9⁄10 Sea cucumber w fish maw & abalone — I’m not a fan of this dish as I don’t like abalone but the majority of the table liked it alot. Abalone and fish maw was tender, sea cucumber was juicy and plump. This is an individual portion dish. Came with a lot of veg, so you don’t need to order a separate veg dish if you don’t want to. 7.5÷10 Salt & pepper spare ribs — my brother loved this dish. Pretty good, Tender, juicy, not oily. 7⁄10 Garlic dou Miao — very sweet 8⁄10 Dan Dan mian — not a fan of this usually, but ordered one portion as someone wanted to try. Wasn’t half bad, sauce was rather tasteful. 7⁄10 Deep fried cod with garlic — lovely. Not at all dry like the usual fried fish in Chinese restaurants, very soft and flaky, almost melt in your mouth. Closer to jap gindara teriyaki type of cod texture then the fried Chinese type of fish. Awesome dish. 8.5−9÷10 Shark cartilage/bones soup — Don’t eat shark’s fin soup, and definitely prefer this instead. Warm, rich and full bodied. Very satisfying. 8⁄10 Cold aloe Vera jelly dessert — refreshing, great end to dinner. Possibly my favorite Chinese dessert. 10⁄10 Total cost was about $ 700 for 6 pax for tonight’s dishes

Dinner at the Grand Shanghai is like taking a trip back in time. Chinese songstress crooning old Chinese classics accompanied by a soulful saxophonist, the crystal chandeliers, old fashioned table lamps and ceiling fans… five stars for the ambience. We had Crispy Eel, Xiao Long Bao and Guo Tie, which were good, but I’ve had better. The Peking duck is good but not the best I’ve had. The meat was succulent and tasty. The soufflé dessert is good. All in, the food is decent but not a stand-out. If you come to Grand Shanghai, it’s mostly for the ambience. A great place to entertain some Gwai Lo, or to get that retro or vintage feel.

The resto itself is nice… Feels like in shanghai a little bit and they sing old fashion songs — depend for people since some people cant stand to hear old songs. I was having a good time there on my birthday treat, the singer sang dual language happy birthday. Feels good Food — their food is considered mediocre with price that bot cheap i bet, i would better go to long beach to have that chinese food with better taste and pretty much same price i guess?

Above average shanghainese food. All the dishes were generally good. I especially like their crispy eel appetizer, it’s like a good interpretation of our local baby squid style. The nicest part is the décor and the entertainment. If you go with old folks, they will particularly enjoy the shanghai singers. They also accept song dedications and you get to hear lots of Chinese oldies.

I came here for a wedding reception so the review is strictly for catered food + experience. Food was good; portion sizes were generous. What i enjoyed most was the Shanghainese Jazz singers who performed a couple of sets during the reception– very entertaining.

Food was fine. Was wedding fare, so would want to return to see their usual offerings.
