Found my 大家乐 in Singapore. Wanton noodle, congee and baked spaghetti all Cantonese classics found in HK and the Chinatowns of the world. Great value and simply delicious. Yes it’s quite authentic. Gonna try char siu rice in my next visit! yummy.

I have a strange way of ranking Cantonese restaurants, it is simply based on the quality of their Yeung Chow Fried Rice. I know some may be horrified by this review, but here goes. Yeung Chow Fried rice is a simple dish to cook, but an extremely hard dish to perfect. If the Yeung Chow fried rice is mushy or sticky, I complete write the restaurant off. Yeung Chow fried rice should have a certain texture, likely through the use of day old rice, and seared by an extremely hot wok. Additionally, the amount of saltiness should be just right. To sum it up, I just know what good Yeung chow fried rice tastes like. It’s that amazing Chinese comfort food that you always come back for more, if done right. And you know what, these guys do it right! Been here twice already. Although my first visit was better than my second, it was good enough to make me come back for a 3rd try in order to satisfy my cravings.

I was surprised about the 2.5 star rating for this place; I didn’t think it was that bad! What allured me to this place was their huge menu with a ton of options, all within a good price range. Dishes went from $ 7 – 12, anything more was meant to be shared with 2 – 3 pax. The process is simple– find a table to sit at, check out the menu(small ones are provided at each table), order/pay at the cashier where they’ll give you a buzzer and then pick up your food at the counter when it’s ready. The menu was varied from BBQ items to sandwiches and breakfast items. The BBQ pork that I ordered came out quickly and really was a-ok for under $ 10. However, Miguel’s Yangzhou fried rice was the bomb dot com! Overall, this was a 3.5 for me, but I’m willing to round up to 4 considering the location– Triple One Somerset is a pretty fancy place, and the prices are cheap for the ambiance!

Best HK style diner in town, hands down. It took me a while to find this hidden gem and my life is complete here with this little piece of home. Come if you want authentic cha charn teng stuff, don’t come if you are looking for you-think-is-HK-but-actually-it’s-Singapore-CCT-shxt, like HK noodles and friends.

Standard of the food dropped quite abit and the taste didn’t taste so authentic like Hong Kong Café food. I ordered the Boiled Chicken rice and it tastes like local hainanese chicken rice, the marinate for the chicken wasn’t done Hong Kong style and the sauces were really a poor attempt. The service of the hostess who took my order was far from friendly, don’t think I will be returning to eat there.

Have been here a few times with colleagues for lunch. Place is not noisy and clean, with good number of seats and tables. Service is decent too. But every time I’m always left with a feeling that the food is so-so or not what you expect from a restaurant. It seems like they just couldn’t get the taste right every time. What I do enjoy is their milk tea, at least that taser decent.
