I was passing by around here and searched for other things to try while in Hougang ang came across a review about this place and wanted to try it for my self. I’m kind of scared trying out noodles with a dark color sauce but the reviews were good. They say that there is usualy a long line on weekends. Long lines on food stalls usually mean good/cheap food. Anyway, I ordered the Lor Mee by showing uncle the pic of the dish. He asked me if it was my first time trying that dish and I said, yes. He is quite friendly and offered to pick the sauces to be mixed and I gladly accepted. I don’t know how to describe the dish but it has a lot of ingredients. I enjoyed eating it even though I do not know how to feel about the taste. Hehe. It was yummy and I was very full after finishing my meal. I stood up and gave uncle a 2 thumbs up before leaving the table. :) worth the try :)

There’s often a patient line at this stall and while I’m not the biggest fan of lor mee, my curiosity was piqued and the stars aligned when there was nary a line one afternoon. I’m glad I tried it. The gravy is not too gooey or gummy and it’s packed with ingredients for $ 2.50. But the star is the combination of garlic and chilli they put on the spoon. When mixed with the viscous gravy and the noodles, it gives it a real kick. While not necessarily a lor mee convert, I’ll be open to another bowl at Lor Ah Soo Lor Mee sometime soon.

This stall has easily the best lor mee in Hougang as it is easy to find a lor mee stall but difficult to find one that is really good and cheap and with alot of ingredients. One bowl can easily have 6 – 7 ingredients and they all taste so tasty and delicious. The sauce is not too starchy also yet has the right consistency. I love that it has my favourite ingredients such as egg, fish cake, wanton, ngo hiang, the 3 layered meat, and even fried fish. I love to have my lor mee with the thick bee hoon and lots of chilli, vinegar and garlic. The aunty has a pleasant personality and even though i requested for a lot of things she didn’t seem to be angry at all, some stall folks would get angry as it is different from the usual order. Would love to go back soon.

My mum used to do her marketing at this market when we lived around that area and I used to head to the food centre above the market to have breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. There is a great variety of food at the food centre, many of which are pretty good. The fried white carrot cake stall there serves up a delightful, crispy and tasty dish. There is a particular Nasi Lemak stall called Yi Liu Xiang that is an old time favourite of mine. They have such awesome chili and ikan bilis that I can just eat the rice with those two ingredients alone. Parking is pretty readily available in the adjoining multi-storey carpark. The food stalls tend to close pretty early(around 2−3pm) so there isn’t a point heading there for dinner.
