This placed used to be really good but has stagnated a bit in the recent years, still the best place in town to get Chinese food, so i would still recommend it.

There are few old favorites in the university town of Lund that deserve to be seen or called institutions but this doesn’t apply to Tatung. This family owned Chinese restaurant has been around since the disco era, still staying alive and still going strong! Tatung is so successful that it is even allowed to get away with, not going to use the word murder but I could, unchanged menu and décor for the last 20 some years. And honestly I don’t think these issues even bother anyone; in fact I think most costumers are pleased about these life/dinning reassuring constants. At Tatung all things seems to be constants and not in a bad way; Tatung is trustworthy, reliable and great bang for the buck. Your favorites will always taste as you remembered them and they almost always cost the same, inflation add on charges aside. Another and even more desirable constant is the service staffs who regardless of the generation exchange still remains friendly and accommodating. In regards of the food served at Tatung, like many other Chinese restaurants around the globe, the food has been adjusted to suit the local taste buds. Sweet and sour sauce is loved and enjoyed by the most Swedes much more sweet than ever really any sour. The dishes in hot sauce are not as hot as one might expect them to be but again they are perfect for the Swedish taste buds. Chup suey being a favorite of mine is served with enough amounts of prawn and chicken meat which are cooked to perfection; juicy and tender. After all nobody likes overcooked prawns nor undercooked chicken and at Tatung these scenarios will never occur not even when both meats are used in the same dish. Other favorites are fried chicken or beef in chines BBQ sauce which both are tasty and tender. If you into seafood then I strongly recommend fried shrimps in curry sauce, the deep fried fish file in hot sauce or fried squid with vegetables. At Tatung you are guaranteed light fluffy batter in regards of deep fried dishes as well as a tasty and well balanced curry sauce and seafood protein that is cooked to perfection meaning neither rubbery nor chewy. Tatung is a great Chinese place to eat at, probably the greatest in the southern part of Sweden, but this in terms of Swedish-fied Chinese food. I for one prefer and want a more authentic Chinese menu and for that reason and for the shark fin soup still appearing on the menu I can’t give it more than 4 stars.
