What’s a coffee shop anyways? Well I’m from Seattle and yes Starbucks is from Seattle — but Seattle locals think it’s crap. There’s about 40 different local coffee roasters that fight tooth and nail for the position of the best. People have their local places that either have the best coffee, the best place or baristas that they have crushes on. Stockholm has a different scene. I hear more about people mentioning atmosphere or wifi when you mention a coffee shop. Bullar maybe. Barista at Victoria gets my 4 stars here because they know my order, they’ve always had the right philosophy when I wasn’t happy with my drinks and worked to see that they were right. They’ve had certain touches like candles in the early early dark mornings of the winter that made the place feel cozy and warm to start my morning. I can see that they embraced the concept of being part of a neighborhood and kept a staff that saw themselves as part of the neighborhood and not just as clocking in to leave. I also feel better knowing I’m buying fair trade coffee and each coffee contributes a school meal for a kid in Africa. And yes, they have the best cardamom buns in town. The only reason it’s 4 instead of 5 on the review is that sometimes it can be busy enough to be a mess on the tables and somehow people can’t be motivated to put their cups or dishes in the rack or trash in the trash.
