Buffet Express

Going to Switzerland and not having a bratwurst is like going to Germany and not having a… oh bratwurst… okay maybe we can use schnitzel for literary reasons…
ANYWAY, as it is now towards the end of my trip, I’m hungry, and I love street food, so what better way to spend my last few swiss franc coins than a german sausage at the food stand in the main train station of Zurich? Oops, forgot I was in Switzerland and the 2 FR coins will do you no good. The chilliwurst I got here was about 6.50 FR, which is actually pretty darn cheap. Thank goodness I still had some EUR left on me, and they took it with 1:1 exchange, which is no longer a rip-​off. I guess good things do come out of that Swiss Franc move.
They have a selection of food at Buffet Express, but a tiny stand just for sausages. You get to pick different types of bread, and I opted for the one that already had a hole in the centre, specially made for wursts. The guy squeezed some ketchup into the hole, took the chiliwurst off the grill, and slipped it in (I feel like there’s a joke here somewhere).
The good: chiliwurst was very tasty and filling… and actually a bit spicy!!!
The not so good: the ketchup shoots out from the bottom every time you take a bite at the top, and the only thing eating that ketchup is your coat.
Overall, I was happy with my selection.
P. S., I did walk around oldtown later to see what I can buy for 6.50 food-​wise, and I only found sausages, so if you are hungry after you get off the train, I suggest you don’t shy away from Buffet Express.

Musst du mal wieder auf den ersten Zug am Morgen warten, weil du gerade vom Feiern kommst? Und hast du einen Riesenhunger? Kein Problem, denn der Buffet Express mitten im Zürcher Hauptbahnhof ist am Wochenende durchgehen geöffnet. Der Buffet Express ist quasi Kiosk und Imbissbude in Einem. Sie verkaufen Sandwiches, Gipfeli, HotDogs, Würste, Zigaretten, Bier oder Softgetränke. Die Bedienung ist megaherzig! Wenn man ein Getränk kauft, fragen sie mit dem immer aufgesetzten breiten Grinsen «wänd sie no öpis z’ässe dezue?» und wenn man ein Sandwich kauft, wird man nach einem Getränk gefragt. So soll’s doch sein! Achtung aber, wenn du nach 24 Uhr etwas kaufst, gibt’s quasi einen «Nachtzuschlag»; finde ich aber ganz okay, ich will ja gar nicht wissen, was die armen Kerle denn sonst auf die Stunde verdienen.
