We were walking across the streets of Zurich and since it was our last Swiss destination, we decided to check Fondue of our lists. We saw this restaurant and they had nice outside seating with beautiful view of Church of our lady. The atmosphere was serene and perfect. We picked the table and sat there and waited for our server to arrive. The servers were nowhere in sight and it took them 20 mins to come to get the order. First look at the menu and boy it was pricey but the shock wave hit us when we came to knew that we cannot share the fondue so it was 40CHF for per person. To make most out of it we ordered at-least 2 option; mushroom fondue and hot chili fondue and 2 wines to pair with it. The order was served with bread pieces. We were little disappointed with both the options. There was no flavor to it besides cheese and bread quality was further demeaning the taste. we had fondue quiet a few times in US and we were expecting something better and authentic but Zunfthaus zur Zimmerleuten failed to cater to our taste buds. The wine was the only star of the meal. Couple points to note: –PRICEY –NOSHARING of FONDUE –BELOWAVERAGETASTINGFONDUE –BADSERVICE –GREATVIEWANDAWESOMEWINESELECTION I wouldn’t recommend this place for the food but just for drinks and relaxing, this would be a great stop.

Positively great ‘American’ style burgers. Fat and juicy, cooked perfectly; with a whole load of fries. Pair it with a mean and tall beer. Summer time means, you can sit along the Limmat River at tables. Just a road between you and the water. This place has friendly staff. Inside seating, is through an arcade. They cook vicious Swiss traditions, like Rosti(shredded potato), invigorating salads and grilled meat platters. Know your food, if you come here. If you do not; it’s like showing up in Paris at the Cordon Bleu — asking: ‘What is a cordon Bleu?‘ Powerhouse gastronomy.

We went to the upstair dinning hall and before we had a chance to say ‘four for dinner’, the waitress immediately said: ‘fondue is outside downstairs’. We went downstairs and were seated outside. We just arrived from Italy in the afternoon and this is the first restaurant we went in Zurich. I guess the waitress is probably right — as Asians, we only know one kind of Swiss food, the fondue. We asked for fondue for two and some other dishes for the kids. No can’t do, the waitress said. You need to order fondue for 4. Not sure if this is the norm for fondue meal here, we decided not to do fondue and order something else on the menu. Two minutes later, three Asians came and sat next to us. They ordered the fondue. It came with a pot of strong smelling cheese and a BIGBAG of raw potatoes and some bread. That’s it, and it was for 60 Swiss franc each. It is obvious that it doesn’t really matter whether you have two or ten people in your party, for a fondue dinner, the only difference is whether they gave you one big bag of potatoes or 5 big bags of potatoes. We decided not to try or look for fondue restaurants for the rest of our Switzerland trip.

Amazing! Get the veal specialty with the fried roaring potatoes and mushroom sauce with just a dab of melting butter. We liked the ground floor outdoor seating. Not the views but great for people watching. Kind servers too. Good Swiss wine choices too.

My Wife and I ate at this restaurant on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day this year. On Christmas Day we had an excellent meal up stairs with superior service. I would give them 5 stars. However, today — 12÷26÷14 we ate outside in the«Fondue» area. We ordered«all you can eat» fondue and meats etc. Our server(A. K***…) a young lady was far less than attentive. I had to get her attention for a drink refill and still did not get it. Ran out of bread for the fondue — no refill. Had to request the check 3 x and took 20 mins from the time the table was cleared to receive the check. Polite incompetence is still incompetence. 2 star. Might want to separate the restaurant into two separate Unilocal identities.

After seeing that Swiss Chuchi was packed in the middle of Sunday evening for dinner, my family and I wandered back towards Zunfthaus, as we had spotted the outdoors fondue area(which was what we were hankering for). You can only eat the fondue outside given the ‘strong’ aroma that it generates, but even when it’s cold outside, the space heaters and the heated packs of rocks(I think?) helped keep us relatively warm, even though it was cool and raining a bit outside. Our waiter was okay, although his attention seemed occupied elsewhere for the most part, and he forgot to bring our appetizer out(which was just a cured meats plate) until we were well through the first pot of fondue. As for the meat plate — it was pretty standard… nothing terribly special, and priced at the usual Zurich prices(i.e. a bit above where it would probably be back in the US). The fondue was pretty solid — despite having that smell that makes you wonder what on earth is cooking, the flavor of the house cheese mix was pretty good. My only complaint — and perhaps not a huge one, as I don’t eat fondue all that often — but the vodka definitely didn’t taste like it was all burned off when served, particularly as you made your way towards the bottom of the bowl. It may have helped if we were given some utensils to mix the fondue around more to mask that flavor, but it gave the fondue a bit of a curdling taste. We were given small fingerling potatoes to dip(which were solid, if a bit plain), as well as the pieces of bread(same criticism — literally just chunks of bread, nothing special). In all, it definitely came off as a very traditional fondue meal, if a bit on the plain side. There aren’t any options either(with regards to the types of fondue or the dipping implements) aside from just getting a pot of fondue with bread and potatoes, but compared to a lot of the other meals I had here, it was definitely more affordable, and the covered outdoor area is a pleasant place to eat — and I can imagine it’d be quite nice when it stays lighter later on in the year.

My husband and I had to be in Zuerich for Christmas this year due to his work schedule and since we were away from all our family we decided to treat ourselves to a night out. The Zunfthaus was one of the only places open for Christmas Eve and we made a reservation for dinner. They saved us the corner table upstairs as requested and the service was beyond amazing. The young ladies working there were so attentive and nice. And I could understand their Swiss German! The food and wine were equally impressive. We chose the 3 course menu for 99– francs per person which turned out to be a decent deal considering Zuerich. We started with a surprise appetizer of roast beef and peppers paired with a sauvignon blanc and then moved on to the lobster bisque. It was foamy and a little thinner than I am used to, but very good. The all you can eat bread kept coming(you can dip it with the olive oil and salted coal if that’s your thing) and before the main course we decided on the Italian Chianti and the sugested Rossi red. The beef filet was prepared perfectly medium and was accompanied by crisp fresh veggies, truffles, and a port wine sauce. I could have done without the over salted potato noodles, but I think it was bad luck. My husband’s were fine. For dessert was a plum compote topped with cinamon whipped cream. We thoroughly enjoyed our intimate Christmas Eve dinner and would love to go back again and try the outdoor fondue experience.

While strolling the raclette smelling, BMW filled, neutral streets of central Zurich, one can’t help noticing all the«zunft“s sprinkled throughout, and often written in what appears to be medieval Germanic font. As a newbie to Zurich, as well as to the sing song-y Swiss-German language, I quickly Googlated«Zunft» to find out it is a guild. Immediately images of robin hood thieves planning their next royal heist while chomping on chicken legs and drinking cheap wine from golden goblets came to mind. Perhaps I have played too much Dungeon and Dragons, but none the less I decided to book a nearby Zunft for a nice Sunday Funday brunch. I asked some locals about what might be good guild near where I live and despite having my robin hood guild bubble bursted, I made an online reservation for Zunfthaus zum Zimmerleuter. Of course being on Limmatquai near the mouth of the lake, I was well aware of the«swiss» prices I would be paying. Luckily, I have slowly weaned myself away from internally converting swiss francs to euros. But sometimes the sharpness of the prices can still sting like a burst of fresh raclette as you pass by an outdoor stall during a smoldering Züri Fäscht day. We promptly arrive on time to be seated at a nice table on the first floor overlooking one of the Zurich church towers on the lake. The interior and service are so nice that you can’t help but say«YES» when first asked if you would like a prosecco as an apéritif. Although I wasn’t wearing green tights with a bow and arrow, I was already enjoying this pleasant and cozy Sunday Funday brunch. Unfortunately, my review ends here. The food selection is Swiss, which is the reason why I came, so I was looking forward to some nicely cooked veal with some rösti. My plus one ordered some kind of meat/bacon dish that was sure to be a winner, but honestly, I thought everything tasted OK, but didn’t WOW me. In fact, I’m learning that many places in Zurich are varying levels of «meh»; this guild being one of them. One interesting thing I had with my potato soup was oxtail praline. I mean… Seeing this on the menu confused me enough to want to try it. Wasn’t sure if I would be getting a chocolate covered hazelnut praline with chunks of ox!!! But it ended up being a seasoned cube of shredded oxtail that was fried in coating. That was pretty much the highlight and the rest was good, but no reason to rob from the reach to feed the poor. In the end we paid 100 each for wine, drinks and OK food, which for central Zurich isn’t bad at all. At the same time, I knew I needed to write this review right away since this guild’s unmemorablness would soon forever be stored and lost in the recess of my food-unconscious memory vault.

I get a little confused with this place, because they post their«1st Floor» menu on their website, but apparently it’s different(and more expensive) than their ground floor menu. Anyway, I wanted to take my mom to dinner at a nice(BUTAFFORDABLE) place on her last day in Switzerland. OH! And a semi-healthy one. We had shoved her full of the delicious Swiss food for the past two weeks, so she was ready for some light options. I laughed to myself silently as we walked along Limmatquai because I figured everywhere was going to be waaaay too steep. And then we walked along Zunfthaus and glanced at the menu, just for the heck of it. And ta daaaa! Meals in the 20s and 30s?! What’s this you say?! Why! I think we shall take a seat. And there was a beautiful seat outside as well! I ordered the fried chicken crusted with cornflakes… around 20CHF. The chicken was crunchy on the outside, with a soft juicy inside. It was complimented with a yummy berry jelly. I was happy. The chicken caesar salad was ok. All the toppings were good, but the salad itself was pretty bitter. And the schnitzel was a regular old schnitzel, but it wasn’t bad at all. We topped everything off with a coupe denmark… it was deeeeeelicious. The food was pretty good, the price was great, and the location was tip top. I was really satisfied. I have heard this place is also wonderful for fondu and traditional Swiss food, but I have yet to try it!

What is swiss food to me. It does include the basics such as air dried meat called Bündnerfleisch. Fondue is not a plastic product made by dupont or some form of hot cheese wiz product, it is amazing cheese that is then melted and you add truffle butter. Then you add the beer that has not been ruined for our safety with preservatives and heat and you get what God had intended. Can not say enough good things about swiss food except that it is almost as good as the people. By American standards it is expensive. Two people ordering wine and beer will run about a buck fifty. They have the option to eat outside and of course have all kinds of blankets to keep warm with. Make it a point to wrap your self up early and save the heat instead of trying to warm up once cold if you eat outside. Inside is nice but does not have the views and the people watching of the patio.

If you are in Zurich, visit one of the famous«Zunfthaus» restaurants. You can’t go wrong with the Veal Zurich Style; Very generous portion. They serve you basicly two plates with veal and Roesti(hashbrown).

Simply one of the best meals I have had in years, anywhere. Try and secure the corner table(come late) on the second floor where you have a view of the river and lit up buildings. Beautiful. But everything from the«bacon roll» to the veal dish — Fried Veal steak with morel cream sauce, butter noodles and mixed vegetables — to the service was impeccable.

This is an excellent restaurant with three different dining arrangements. You can sit outside on the fur covered chairs complete with swiss blankets(no joke) and eat Fondue. You can dine in the bar area or go to the formal restaurant upstairs. The Swiss love the outdoor experience and they take part in it even when it is cold. Authentic Swiss cuisine. Great fish and veal dishes. The air dried meat appetizer is a must try. Excellent service and great stop for the real Zurich experience. Vital Statistics: Forget going here on Friday and Saturday and maybe Thursday without reservations in the upstairs section of the restaurant. You will need to settle on the bar area which I did and it was nice. Good prices on wine and beer. The hard stuff is pricey.
