The smell of a bakery is always enticing and Orchid Hill is no exception. Baking bread on the premises each day, the smell is tempered by being part of a shopping centre but you still get a small whiff of it every now and again. The different breads: pane di casa, French batton, sliced and full loves, bread roles — crusty and soft dinner rolls, sesame seeds and poppy seed, everything looks so good. But they don’t stop at bread, they also have delicious cakes, family sized fruit tarts, custard filled and glazed on top, exquisite almandine and apple pies decorated with dried apples, yum. If you don’t want a family sized treat, try the cherry pies, the apple danish or the mince tarts at Christmas. I shop there regularly and I always take one of these little treasures home to eat in piece at my leisure which normally means that I scoff it as soon as I get home. You can always eat there if you can’t wait to get home. They serve coffee and have cold drinks.
