2 hours to wait for our food. Drinks got really hot while we were waiting. They didn’t even put our drink bottle in ice or in the fridge. Forgot to come back to get an order off one of the guys on our table. Service was really bad. Would not recommend this place. Too expensive for eggs and fancy named menu items.

My hotel mentioned this place in the room brochure so I decided to walk down to check it out. Super casual corner café. The waiter Julian is from Brazil and couldn’t have been nicer. I ordered beef kabob which was delicious. Great place to go for a drink and dinner

As a local, I hate to say it but Tapeo wins the award for SLOWEST service ever. We arrived for Sunday brunch yesterday and had to wait 40 mins + for poached eggs on toast with a side of avocado. No head’s up re the wait time & no apology either. Eggs were runny, when I asked for well-done, and the avocado was most uninspired. Just a half an avocado upturned on my plate. We tried dinner one night last year, and there were similar wait times. The waiter told us «there is only one chef in the kitchen». When my haloumi, orange salad arrived I had to send it back as they had left out the haloumi. Disappointing experience all round.

Argh. As a local to the area I wish this place was better. The service is always so so slow(30min+ for eggs and toast) and poor vegetarian options. The prices are high for the area so they need to raise their game!

Disappointing. Almost every time I go here the service is not great, the staff are either complaining about the work conditions or are having a bad day. The food is expensive, our eggs have been undercooked, I’d reccomend not getting the baked eggs. I paid $ 5 for a hot chocolate which I think is a bit steep, I’d expect to pay that at the opera house, not in Redfern. On the upside, the bakery is good, the bread is delicious. Grab a hard crusty roll and a takeaway coffee, go sit in Redfern park and enjoy the day

Great service, had the beans and poached eggs. Could’ve done with a little more seasoning but overall a really nice way to start your Sunday.

Feet soaked, umbrella barley able to do its job escaping the rain this afternoon seemed impossible. In search of something warm I popped into Tapeo for a coffee for the first time. Cozy couch style booths in the back helped me forget about the wet mess that was outside. Ending up grabbing a sandwich and reading some of a book off their shelf, added a little sunshine to my day. Good prices(and even better if take away, about $ 3 cheaper for a sandwich). I’ll be back soon!

Just had the Big Breakfast. Awesome food. Unfortunately had to wait 45mins for food today for some reason(I did sit down at 11:30am). That’s the only reason I didn’t give 5 stars today.

I’m in denial. I’m in denial that Sydney can get cold and it is coming into winter. I’m stubborn and choose to wear summery clothing and not dress appropriately for the cooler temps. But Tapeo came up with the perfect solution for my stubborn ways. It has a grey woollen blanket casually folded over my seat. waiting for me as if to say, I was expecting you. Today, was my visit to Tapeo and I got to try their coffee and it was soooooo good! I also got to try their breakfast. It’s sooooo good! This place is soooooo good! We were walking past and had planned to just grab a takeaway but so glad we stayed and sat down for breakie. The waiter was friendly and really attentive. We made friends with the guys next to us who proudly declared they dine here every weekend. We had total food envy when our new friends breakfast’s came out — French toast with bacon and this chorizo dish that had honey in it. Our poached eggs with avocado & feta was awesome too but we’ll be coming back to try some more deliciousness on Tapeo’s menu. Breakfast is served all day. Tapeo have blankets for customers sitting outside. Their coffee is sooooo good. They have bonsoy(a big deal for soy drinkers like me) and I just can’t fault the service. Five stars for our breakfast at Tapeo. Loved it.

Almost stopped here because the coffee looked fresh and well presented, the setting relaxed and clean and the menu tempting. But the barristers non engaging, couldn’t careless superior attitude was appalling. Shame

Really great. Food is of a great standard and coffee certainly passes the test. Lots of staff. Can be hard to find a table on a Saturday or Sunday morning but worth the wait. Poached eggs on sourdough is more choice but the Catalonia is also a treat.

The location here is great, overlooking Redfern Park. I’ve been here a couple times now and each experience can be summed up as such: Service: Good service, helpful and attentive Coffee: Mediocre, could get a better cup elsewhere Food: Menu is mediocre, EXCEPT for the Catalonia. If you’re going to eat here, just order the Catalonia because it is fan-fuggin-tastic. Everything else on the menu pales in comparison.

Food is great. Went here for breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it. Downside was I had to wait a good 20 minutes before I even had any water on my table but maybe they were understaffed that day. Will go again. Chorizo was to die for!

Used to ride past this café on my way to work, but it’s taken me months to finally go try it out. It was extremely busy, and we ended up sitting at a weird little table against the counter, which was okay but not ideal(felt a little in the way). The coffee was well made, but with the recent explosion in micro-roasting cafes that use their own beans, I always feel a little disappointed when cafes use big companies(in this case Toby’s at least, which is a bean I quite like but am just a little bored of). Food was excellent but not actually what I wanted. Wanted a vegetarian breakfast with avocado instead of tomato, but was told they didn’t exchange items in the big breakfasts. So just asked for no tomato, which they managed, but they gave me the wrong type of eggs. Not that I really care — usually I just pick at random — and actually by the time the food got there I was more in the mood for poached(which is what I got) than scrambled(which is what I ordered). But it was still a bit disappointing to be not only told I couldn’t order what I wanted, but then not to actually get what I ordered, particularly given the price. That being said, the food was excellent. And my girlfriend’s french toast was pretty superb. Overall, decent but there are better cafes closer to home so probably won’t go back.

Can only comment on the coffee and the«I have my computer and I’m desperate for wi-fi» ambiance. After having the best coffee of my life yesterday, I’m a bit jaded, but the Toby Estate coffee they serve up here was really bitter. The chocolate sprinkles on my cap were decadent, but I had to add sugar to the coffee to make it drinkable. It was definitely one of those caps that left the«I drank coffee today» taste in your mouth… Meeeh. Apart from the nothing to write home about coffee, the staff was extremely accommodating and eager to help me find a comfortable spot to do some work. It’s a bit of a bustling café, considering it’s great corner location across from the park, so I wouldn’t recommend it to write a thesis, but it’s perfectly suitable spot if you just want to play around on the computer and write Unilocal reviews :) The free WI-FI is definitely a luxury for the area, so big points there! Cosy and comfortable enough, I could potentially return if in the area again, but definitely wouldn’t make an effort to do so… Once again, jaded much?

One of the better casual café/restaurants in Redfern. Superb breakfast menu, but very rich in pickings — be prepared to get full. I would recommend the Catalonia if you’re hungry. Coffee definitely needs some work. But is doable, and the food more than makes up for it. Dinner is very much a shared tapas kinda deal, not the cheapest menu going around, but definitely a nice place to relax in over some patatas bravas.

Need a dosage of Gypsy Kings? Tapeo’s sure to play you some! I stopped by for an afternoon coffee and it was easy to just sit back and realx. Great to be on the corner and overlooking the park. Will have to head back there to see what it’s like during the night.

My friend and I went here on a Sunday night, because we discovered that Dry Land was closed. Tapeo certainly isn’t the most atmospheric environment inside, but it’s on a busy Redfern corner, and if you’re sitting outside you can gaze over at Redfern Park, and watch everyone on the street. You also get approached by people on the street, which is entertaining but maybe less fun, depending on what they want to say to you. Inside Tapeo has less atmosphere — the bright fluorescent lights from the kitchen are always in your eyes, and it doesn’t have much style. The waiters seem a bit anxious, and keep encouraging you to order more. That said — we were quite impressed with the tapas. A bit messy and delicious — and definitely worth coming back for and trying a few more dishes. The white sangria is very drinkable but nothing amazing. They’re generous with drink servings, but the place is not cheap. I think we paid about $ 40 per person, and we were ordering drinks and food rather conservatively.

On the corner of two busy roads in Redfern, I’m surprised why it isn’t always busy, never-the-less I still do frequent Tapeo for some large group order, courtesy of my large meetings at the Agency I work for. Whenever I have ordered the muffins, I always receive fantastic service with a huge warm smile, and great conversation. The delectable muffins are made-to-order, and are to die for, cherry & chocolate; blueberry & white chocolate; rhubarb & pear; are all made with care, cooked to perfection and served warm. I usually have mine accompanied with my favorite piccolo Latte, although not as bitter as I prefer, it is still a perfect treat before work starts. The outside area is a damn good place to read a book, and watch the characters of Redfern wander the streets. Sip on your latte, and enjoy your muffins, if you get a bit tempted by smells of the top-class meals flying out of the kitchen, try the breakfast meals, which always seem to delight.
