Aida Stephansplatz

Viele Torten und Kuchen. Riesige Auswahl, leider geschmacklich nur okay. Die Lage ist perfekt, die Einrichtung allerdings lieblos und scheinbar aus den 80ern. Toiletten renovierungsbedürftig obwohl sie kostenpflichtig sind.

Came here for some coffee and cake whilst catching up with a friend while I was visiting. I think it was the truffle cake I had. It was nice and airy and soft. And the cream was delicious. Cute décor pink and white all around. And perfect location in the center of Stephansplatz.

Cute place to sit and see shoppers over Graben. Had large selection of cakes and sweets. Coffee was ok. But most places across Europe were all machine made not by baristas. So not amazing coffee but it’s very consistent. Consistently mediocrity. Still l’d go there again as I love the pink pretty decore.

Hi, I’m Austrian and have never had such a bad coffee and ‘cremeschnitte’ in my life… unfortunately. I don’t understand why tourists should go there.

Got a recommendation for this chain when we asked for the best strudel in Vienna. It wasn’t the best we had on our trip overall, but did the job.

It is said that Aida is the Starbucks of Vienna, if the person is being generous, McDonalds if they are not. I give this location and Aida in general «5 stars» for most tourists.
First of all, it is adorable. Old fashioned, yes, but much of Vienna’s service and décor is. Being served by girls in pink uniforms with silver trays is a part of the charm. I would say that Aida has the best parts of Starbucks; a know entity with consistent quality and service that makes you feel as if you belong. It is better than Starbucks in every other way for me. It has fantastically beautiful drinks and pastries with a girly interior.
The location at Stephansplatz has is in the bustling pedestrian center. There is outdoor seating and an upstairs salon with seats overlooking the area. Just go and find an empty place, the server will come over shortly.
You will certainly find better Viennese coffee salons, but Aida is a great introduction.

Direkt am Stephansdom gelegen und nicht gerade groß ist dieses Café schnell an seinen Kapazitätsgrenzen, da dies der Platz Nr. 1 in Wien für Wiener und auch Touristen ist.
Das Preisniveau ist dementsprechend groß.
Das Personal ist zwar gut vorhanden, aber etwas mehr Wienerisch hätte ich mir schon gewünscht. Traditionelle Caféhaus-​Uniformen reichen da nicht aus.
Über die Mélange und die Sachertorte kann ich mich nicht allzu sehr beklagen. Ist eben Standard und nicht hervorzuheben.
Die Toilettenregelung ist daher sehr zu begrüßen (Personal mit Quittung-​Kontrolle).

Love the vintage feel. A lot of choices for coffee and sweets. A good place to hangout :)

Nice spot. Liked the Cappuccino and the Strudel was pretty good. Great location for people watching on Stephansplatz.

If you see an Aida when you are walking around in Vienna and you are from America, make sure you go in. You’ll be glad you did.
Décor is very unique — everything is pink and their cakes are so pretty and satisfying. A coffee would cost around 2 – 3 euros and cake 3 euros. The service at this location is really good, and you can always order more than you can finish and take it home. If you go to Vienna alone, you can just go in and find a seat — they will treat you well!

Die Aida am Stephansplatz ist für einen echten Wiener hier nicht wegzudenken.
Hier schlägt sozusagen das Wiener Herz– hier trifft man sich auf einen kleinen Braunen mit Schlag oder auf einen schnellen Espresso.
Hier esse ich schon frühmorgens eine Maronitorte.
Hier sieht man unzählige Touristen, genauso aber ganz, ganz viele Wiener. :-))

1913 von einen böhmischen Einwanderer gegründet.
Mittlerweile gibt es unzählige Filialen, alle in rosa– braun gehalten, seit über 100 Jahren.
Die Damen tragen seit Beginn meiner Erinnerung (und das ist schon recht lange:-))) die typisch rosa– braune Dienstbekleidung.
Das alles ist mittlerweile KULT! :-)
Die Aida am Stephansplatz ist arg renovierungsbedürftig– wirkt alles schon ein bisserl sehr, sehr, retro .
Wirklich schön ist es hier nicht.
Trotzdem strahlen die weißen Plastikstühle, die Inneneinrichtung aus den 50– ern, und vor allem der wunderbare Blick aus dem ersten Stock direkt auf den Stephansplatz und Graben einen gewissen Stolz und Patina aus. :-))
Man fühlt sich sicher und geborgen hier. Die Glocken vom sehr nahen Stephansdom unterstützen dieses — quasi: ur-​österreichisch.
Nein, der Wiener möchte gar nicht so modern sein.
Altbewährtes, Tradition und Qualität — das will der Wiener.
Eine Mélange, eine Schinkenrolle und ein Mayonnaise — Ei, vielleicht noch ein Powidltascherl oder eine Himbeerbombe.
Ja, auch bei den Speisen gibt es kaum Veränderungen.
Doch, eine kleine: neuerdings salzige Sandwich– Torten.
Ich habe sie noch nicht probiert. Sie schauen aber sehr gut aus.
Muss mich aber erst langsam daran gewöhnen… :-))

The ladies who work here are very nice and speak perfect English. All pastries are reasonably priced, around € 1.80 and cakes are about € 2.50 per slice. I tried the apple strudel here, which I heard is a famous pastry in Vienna and it was really good, nothing like I’ve had before back in the states. Fast service and it seems like a lot of locals come here! Cash only

Rude waitress, good pastries
These cafes are all over Vienna. I went to two different locations during stay in the city. The food is pretty good and the coffee is decent. At this particular location I went in just to get s pastry. I ordered the Mozart cake which was very delicious. I would definitely order it again. The service however was awful. The Café was closing in 15 minutes so we took it for takeaway to eat in our flat. We had purchased Vienna cards which include a 20% coupon for the Café. We waitress made up some excuse when we tried to present the coupon and went from being able to speak English to only speaking German when we asked her why she wouldn’t accept it. Our experience at the other Aida Café (not quite smack dab in the middle of the city centre) was much more enjoyable. Very friendly staff and yummy food. I would go a different location if your looking to try this Café.

Good location, pretty crappy service, average deserts. So depends what you are looking for. If just for an espresso –no bad/​average, view/​location — awesome, but be ready for less then stella service. In the end, the server was even too lazy to tell us we forgot something on the table even though he walked by us twice while we were buying sweets to go inside after we had our mean and paid.

I got a Pear Strudel and Aphfelstrudel to go here since there were so many people and tourists.
The pear strudel was great, it had very good crispy crust (would have been much better right out of the oven of course, but I’ve heated it up in the oven so it’s close). The filling is not too sweet and a little tangy. There’s a faint star anise flavor (not what I would chose as the spice of choice for pears). Perfect tenderness of the pear baked with the perfect thickness of crust.
The aphfelstrudel fell just a little short on the crust side since there’s a lot more apples in the filling than pears, it’s stacked up about an inch high. Plenty of apples and all baked to the perfect apple tenderness. The filling wasn’t too sweet with plenty of cinnamon and also a little tangy-​ness from either the natural acidity of apples itself or lemons. There’s raisins in the filling though, I’m not a fan of plumped rehydrated raisins, it just doesn’t taste the same. Also the perfect thickness of the crust. Great combination. I can eat this all day! No cream or ice cream needed.
Usually when bakeries or restaurants get into opening more than 2 – 3 branches the quality starts going downhill so I usually try and avoid these places but Aida is different. Whatever it is they are doing it, keep doing it, it’s great!
The only thing that’s keeping the full 5 stars is the way their ordering system is «set up» is not ideal. You go in there and it’s just chaotic. or maybe it’s only because this location is in the dead central tourist location.
Otherwise I would give them a 5 star!

I would go to this place for their pastries only. They have an endless variety of all sorts of reasonably priced sweets for Vienna. Ice-​cream was not bad either.
However, I did not like Aida’s coffee at all especially Viennese famous mélange, which they served me without whipped cream. It was bitter, burned and watery.
Service can be very slow because this place is very crowded. Waiters are friendly and speak some English. Menu is translated in English and has pictures of all cakes and coffee they serve.
In my opinion this coffee shop is worth trying, but Vienna has a lot more and a lot better coffee houses with a less hectic environment.
Also for first time American tourists, you do not need to wait to be seated at any of these coffee shops. All you need to do is grab a table and wait for a waiter. This is how it works here.

Very nice bakery with delicious cakes!
Staff spoke English and were very helpful. We tried the vanilla raspberry cake and some other berry cake, unfortunately I forgot the name: P
Both were very tasty, Vienna is a great place for pastry lovers!

This is a reasonably priced, high quality pastry shop with respectful and efficient service. So sweet in all pink with white ribbons! I love their wrapping paper and paper bags — pink tissue with drawings of the Stephensdom and the prater riesenrad in white. I highly recommend the golatsche, flaky pastry with a soft cheese filling, and open-​faced sandwiches, especially bacon and hot pepper, ham and horseradish, and cheese and chives. The maronicremeschnitte is also good. Aida is a franchise chain with 34 shops, some in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Croatia, Canada, and Bosnia. Ten shops were said to exist before WWII, all of them destroyed by air raids. Sit on the white plastic seats and enjoy.

The desserts here are alright… I had this hazelnut pastry, and it was really hard, but the flavors were phenomenal.
They also suggested this chocolate cake with apricot jam, and it was yummy for the first 3 bites or so. Afterwards, each bite is a mouthful of sugar.
I raised the review from three stars to four stars because of the relatively quick and free wifi. It’s a nice place to do some work over something sweet.

Mit Abstand die größte Aida Filiale — leider auch mit Abstand das unfreundlichste Personal!!!
Schade eigentlich, denn der ‘Gastgarten’ mitten am Stephansplatz gefällt mir. Auch wenn es richtig schwer ist, da einen Platz zu ergattern. Eben sehr überlaufen + enormen tagtäglichem Touristengewusel.

Read as 3.49. We wanted to have a pastry and tea on our penultimate day in Vienna. I ordered three small treats, a tiny sacher torte, a Klimpte mint/​dark chocolate confection and another chocolate something or other. Alan ordered a poppy seed pastry and an apple strudel. I received the Klimpt and the sacher torte. I couldn’t taste any mint in the Klimpt and the sacher torte was sweeter than I liked. I was glad they were both small. I liked the poppy seed best of any of the pastries because it wasn’t very sweet. The apple strudel was also good and not too sweet.
Tables are fairly close together and you have to wait at a stand up table until a sit down table is vacated and grab it. Stools at the tables are low. The décor is white and black marble w/​pink accents and the staff wear pink shirts and blouses. We spend almost no time in bakeries, so this was a departure and I was sorry that what I ordered was disappointing to me. It’s hard when you don’t like cakes on the sweet side to know what you’re going to get. Alan’s ordering was more successful this time than mine. We’re leaving tomorrow but if we weren’t I doubt we would return.

Für Unilocal’s leckere Krapfenjagd hat es mich mal wieder in die — meines Wissens — größte Aida Filiale verschlagen — und lecker wars!
Die Marillen– und Vanillekrapfen waren wirklich lecker, genauso wie der Kaffee. Was mich auch immer total fasziniert, sind wie wunderhübschen kleinen Punschkrapferl (o.ä.) die saisonal dekoriert werden. Egal ob zum Fasching oder Valentinstag oder Frühlingsbeginn, es sind immer schöné Mehlspeisen und Torten zu sehen.
Der Kellner war zwar leicht gestresst, hatte dann aber doch noch ein paar Schmähs parat.
Den einen Punkt Abzug gibts für die Spezialkrapfen — leider! Die Fettglasur fand ich leider nur fettig und künstlich und ziemlich geschmacklos, die Füllung vom Champagnerkrapfen ist ziemlich alkoholisch, aber trotzdem ganz lecker. Meine größte Enttäuschung war aber der bunt gepunktete Punsch-​party-​krapfen — da hätte ich nämlich ein Krapfeninneres mit Punschcreme erwartet, aber auch eine leckere Punschglasur auf Zuckerbasis und keine künstlich aromatisierte Fettglasur. Ach die Glasur… sorry, das gibt einen ganzen Stern!
Wenn gerade nicht Krapfenzeit ist, würd ich euch allerdings beim Aida (bei der Aida?) die pinken Cousins vom echten Krapfen ans Herz legen: Die Punschkrapferl! Die sind nämlich wirklich lecker!

Eigentlich übte Aida mit seinem Corporate Design und der altertümlichen Einrichtung auf mich bisher immer den Charme eines Billig-​Kaufhauses aus. Oh, wie konnte ich nur falsch liegen.
Durch die Unilocal-​Krapfentour (Community-​Mitglieder gemeinsam auf der Jagd nach der besten Kalorienbombe am Faschingsdienstag) habe ich mich dazu hinreißen lassen, eines dieser Lokale nach fast 5 Jahren in Wien auch einmal zu betreten.
Hands down, die Krapfenauswahl ist irre. Aber die gibt’s soweit ich weiß auch nur zur Faschingszeit. Mir scheint, da muss ich nächstes Jahr wohl wieder kommen. Wie der Kaffee und die zahlreichen Mehlspeisen sind, weiß ich leider nicht. Dennoch werde ich mir zum Vorsatz nehmen, der Aida nach diesem positiven Erlebnis noch eine Chance zu geben. ;-)

As a total cake fiend, I insisted that we go into this place once I had read about it. Inside, there are throngs of people and case after case of beautiful cakes. Absolute heaven. We ended up having hot chocolates and a strudel since I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. Service is efficient, strudel was delicious, and hot chocolate had a thick layer of the real whipped cream Wieners seem to like on everything– that’s ok, Gena approves of it.

Also eigentlich ist mir die Aida zu zuckerlrosa, aber ich muss gestehen, ich bin beeindruckt von ihrer Auswahl an Krapfen. Eigentlich schon zu spät für die heurige Saison hab ich erst während unserer Unilocal-​Krapfentour am Faschingdienstag erfahren, was es da alles gibt.
Konnte mir natürlich den Champagner-​Krapfen nicht entgehen lassen: Der Teig war sehr gut, die Crème war mir einen klitze-​kleinen Touch zu alkoholisch. Als Schokofan bin ich natürlich auch dem Schokokrapfen sehr zugeneigt. Aber ein Krapfen mit Marillenmarmelade ist letzten Endes immer noch der einzige Wahre! Nächstes Jahr komm ich wieder, um all die anderen Sorten durchzukosten — versprochen!

Krapfentour Logbuch zweiter Eintrag: auch der halbe Krapfen, den ich bei der Aida kosten durfte, war sehr lecker. Was Auswahl und kreative Sorten angeht, hat die Aida wohl gewonnen, da isst das Auge schon sehr gerne mit. Ich bin ja prinzipiell ein Fan der Kette, auch wenn sie einen Altherrenruf hat, aber ich finde die Torten einfach super und nicht so teuer wie bei der Oberlaa. Die Filiale am Stephansplatz ist natürlich eine der schönsten und geschäftigsten in Wien.

Die Kaffee-​Konditorei ist immer einen Besuch wert. Vor allem im ersten Stock sitzt es sich besonders schön, weil netter Ausblick auf das Gewusle in der City.

Fabulous cakes, coffee and hot chocolate. Would go back any time.

My introduction to the Aida chain took place at the Stephansplatz branch. It’s great that they seem to have a never-​ending supply of just about every cake they offer — they just don’t run out, unlike other shops. They have plenty of different kinds of cakes to choose from. And I believe this particular branch stays open just a little bit later than many of the other pastry shops. Plus, their prices are lower than much of the competition’s.
The downside is that most of Aida’s cakes just aren’t all that good. Fine for squenching a sugar-​withdrawal episode, but nothing to have a craving after when you’re away from Vienna.
There are better pastries to be had across the square at Café Weinwurm.

Es gibt wirklich schönere Cafés, aber eines muss man der Aida lassen: der Kaffee ist, vollkommen entgegen des typischen Wiener Kaffee, sehr gut. Ich gönne mir gerne einen Cappuchino mit Esterhazy-​Torte auf der Terrasse am Stock-​im-​Eisen Platz und beobachte das Treiben.
Zu Stoßzeiten braucht man aber garnicht zu versuchen einen Platz zu finden. Es ist wahnsinnig viel los. Keine Chance auf Entspannung oder gar Erholung.
Trotzdem kommt ein Bekannter von mir schon seit Jahren regelmäßig nach der Arbeit zur Aida. Es muss schon etwas bedeuten, wenn sich ein Mensch jeden Tag darum bemüht den Weg von der Pilgramgasse in die Stadt zu finden und dann wieder zurückzufahren.
Noch ein kleiner Tipp: hier gibts auch Sachertorten in Holzkisten. Das eignet sich auch gut als Mitbringsel oder Geschenk. Man muss sich aber erst daran gewöhnen, dass die Kiste rosa ist.

Aida
Die Wiener Kaffeehauskultur gehört zu Wien wie der Stephansdom und genau so der Aida. Allein durch das Rosa von außen wirkt es schon sympathisch und einladend.
Für mich und meine Familie ist ein Kaffee und Kuchen beim Aida mindestens jedes zweite Wochenende ein Muss. Bei einem Wiener Mélange und einem Stück Erdbeertorte lässt es sich auch viel besser über die letzten Neuigkeiten tratschen.
Das Publikum im Aida ist eher älter aber auch ein paar jüngere verlaufen sich bei der leckeren Auslage schon mal in die Konditorei.
Man kann sich die Torten und die Strudel auch als Ganzes bestellen und für zu Hause kaufen. Besonders zu empfehlen ist die Erdbeertorte da sie mit frischen Erdbeeren zubereitet wird.
Auch der bestellte Apfelstrudel ist noch ganz warm wenn man ihn abholt und die Gäste zu Hause würden glauben er ist frisch aus ihrem Backofen.

Häufig rätselte ich darüber, weshalb die «Aida», eine bekannte Café-​Konditorei in Wien, so gut besucht ist. Die Kellnerinnen tragen seit Jahrzehnten altmodische Kleider in rosa-​weiß gestreift, und neuerdings rosa-​braun und auch die Einrichtung ist sehr minimalistisch — von Gemütlichkeit kann hier keine Rede sein.
Trotzdem zieht es die Menschen an und nach meinem ersten Besuch war mir klar, wie das funktionieren kann! Die Qualität der Speisen ist ausgezeichnet, angefangen bei der Sachertorte bis zum Buttercroissant, und auch der Kaffee schmeckt hervorragend.
In Wien gibt es 27 Filialen von Aida, die bekannteste ist die Filiale am Stephansplatz — im Herzen von Wien. Dort muss man oft nach einem freien Platz suchen, da die Konditorei sehr gut besucht ist.
Weil es zuhause aber dann doch gemütlicher ist, bevorzuge ich es, Aida-​Mehlspeisen mitzunehmen — in der Vitrine gibt es ein großes Angebot!
Ein großes Lob an die Programmierer der Aida-​Homepage, ist meiner Meinung nach gut gemacht!
