Intercontinental Wien

Gorgeous luxury hotel in downtown Vienna. Think marble and chandeliers and you will have a good idea of what the lobby looks like. It has a very sophisticated atmosphere. The room was classy and simple, and provided a great view of Vienna. The club lounge also has spectacular panoramic views of the city, and has quite a good offering of food and drinks all day.
The location is ideal; within walking or biking distance of all area attractions. I would recommend renting a CityBike from the kiosk right near the hotel. It’s $ 1 per hour which is very reasonable, and it’s a great way to see the city. There are dedicated bike lanes so you’re not competing with traffic.
I would definitely return to this hotel again if my travels bring me back to Vienna.

Well located hotel that has middle sized rooms decent facilities but hasn’t been updated in several decades. All in all a good option if you want a solid centrally located full-​service hotel. The breakfast buffet is quite good including Japanese and Chinese and Middle Eastern options in addition to the traditional Western fare

Very nice hotel, efficient and staff were welcoming and valued patronage. Did not dine on site, but the bar menu and choice was excellent.

Im Rahmen des Sparkling Vienna Events testeten wir einen Abend lang verschiedenste Hotelbars in Wien. Erster Stopp war das Hotel Bristol, gefolgt vom Grand Hotel, dem Intercontinental, dem Palais Hansen Kempinksi, dem Hotel de France und zum Abschluss das kürzlich eröffnete Park Hyatt. Meine Bewertung bezieht sich also ausschließlich auf die Bar und diesen Abend.
Eines der tollen Dinge am Sparkling Vienna Event war, dass man auch in Hotels geht, die man sonst nicht besuchen würde. Für mich war das Intercontinetal eines davon, da es von außen so uneinladend und nach Betonbau aussieht. Aber ich war positiv überrascht: der Barbereich ist groß und offen, der Service war freundlich und aufmerksam und Rauchen schien nicht erlaubt (zumindest nicht zu unserer Besuchszeit). Mein Moscow Mule war sehr gut, auch das im Motto «60s» gehaltene Finger Food war durchweg sehr lecker (vom Punschkrapfen war ich hin und weg, obwohl ich von diesen sonst wirklich kein Fan bin).

The Intercontinental Hotel has been a very important hotel for Vienna. And throughout the year 2014, it has celebrated its 50^th anniversary with all sorts of fun and interesting events.
But why is the Intercontinental Hotel so important for Vienna? Well when the American airline company Pan Am decided to invest in Vienna by building one of the largest Intercontinental Hotels in the world, this was Vienna’s first international chain hotel. And it was Vienna’s most modern hotel and a demonstrable sign of post-​war recovery for the city and its tourism industry. This hotel quickly became the preferred hotel for world politicians and movie and rock stars visiting Vienna… Oh, and for cold war spies too! The Intermezzo Bar in the Intercontinental was a favorite gathering place for spies spying on politicians and diplomats … and each other.
Today the Intercontinental still goes on — not with the same market dominance that it once had — but it still does quite well due to its history and to its great location. And whenever someone I know has an expense account or wants to treat me to my favorite afternoon tea — Café Vienna in the Intercontinental is still the place I always choose for my Darjeeling tea, tea sandwiches, and scones. Hey if it was once good enough for Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, and Mick Jagger, it is good enough today for me!

A fabulous hotel in the city centre of Vienna. For location this place gets 5 stars. It is just about 50 meters from the Stadtpark U-​Bahn station and getting around the city via tram or train is great.
The hotel lobby is grand and has a lovely bar with loads of cocktails and drink choices. I did not eat at this hotel so cannot comment on the food. The room service menu however is pretty pricey.
The service here is great and the staff are very helpful and prompt. The rooms are excellent (wish they had better pillows) and rooms are spacious and have nice bathrooms albeit a bit small. They also have smoking rooms available if you need it.
All in all, I had a great stay here and I would happily return. The convenience of this hotel from a location point of view makes it a very attractive hotel to stay at. Everything is either a short walk away or a short train ride away from here.

If you’re looking for a boutique hotel, this isn’t for you.
If you’re searching for a hotel that has: location, American sized rooms, great concierge level, superior restaurant food, a fabulous salon… search no more. There are other hotels that are much more expensive yet the Intercontinental delivers, as always.
My incredible boyfriend made the reservations over the Christmas holiday and we were upgraded to a large room overlooking Stadtpark Vienna.
Service is super, the staff speaks perfect English (another nod to the Americans with limited language skills) and we had a fantastic meal at their restaurant: MediterraNeo.
Since I’m the queen of wash & blow outs. they made a reservation at the salon for only $ 39 eu and then gave me a 10 eu discount. Fantastic experience! great hair for final meal at Silvio Nickol.
The location is ideal; the stay was wonderful and the beds are super duper comfy!

This is a 4– property. The rooms are a decent size, smaller for American standards but average for NYC or large city. It is across the street from a beautiful park, Stradtgarden, that is excellent for walking or running. It is not near the city center and the restaurants in the area are average. Finding a grocery store was a challenge. The beds and linen are very nice and comfortable, but I don’t like the double twins pushed next to each other (the beds still separated). The bathroom is small but adequate. There is no bidet. If you thought about cuddling up to a good movie or show, bring your own because all they play in English are The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie and other outdated shows. Of course, you don’t come all the way here to watch TV, but it would be nice to see/​hear something in English other than CNN and BBC. The internet access here is HORRIBLE!!! You have to connect via ethernet cable in the rooms, and then wi-​fi is available only in the lobby. They do not offer free wi-​fi or internet access. It’s $ 10/​hour or $ 25 for the day or $ 125 EURO for the week. And, it’s SLOW. I tried to download movies on iTunes and a 30 minute TV show took 4 hours on ethernet and wouldn’t work in the lobby on my iPad, due to the lack of speed. Email and browsing are fine, but nothing more than that. The staff is really nice, and room service is decently priced. I had breakfast this morning and it was pretty good. It’s very quiet around here and things seem to close really early (I couldn’t find an open grocery store when there was daylight; not exactly sure what time it was but I think it was 7pm). Another small pet peeve is no clock in the room, except on the TV. You have to get a wake up call or use your own device. Don’t forget to bring your converters for your plugs here. The robe and slippers are a nice touch and are comfortable. The minibar is pricey. They have a safe and coffee maker in the room. Overall pretty good, but expect to spend some money for the extras if you want a pleasant experience.

5 Sterne für das 5 Sterne Hotel in der ausgezeichneten Lage zur Erkundung der Stadt.
Bitte nicht vom Betonklotz-​äußeren abschrecken lassen, aber das hat man eh vergessen, sobald man vom freundlichen Personal in der imposanten Lobby begrüßt wurde.
Die Zimmer sind standard, in höheren Stockwerken hat man einen schönen Blick über Wien.
Das Frühstücksbuffet ist toll mit einer Omlettstation und einer vielfältigen Auswahl.
Besonders erwähnen möchte ich noch das Fitnessstudio mit seinem kompetenten Team, welches sich mit einer aufmerksamkeit ausgezeichnet hat, welche ich mir auch für mein eigenes Studio wünschen würde.
Hab mich hier sehr wohl gefühlt.

Attended a Conference here last week. Huge rooms with all mod cons, and excellent service from lobby staff, and also the staff waiting on us with the conference food. But I still dont like ‘conveyor belt toasters’ at breakfast which leads to queueing at busy times. do they really have to do this.
Its also very expensive, despite a concessionary conference rate

Gediegenes Hotel, das von außen Marke «hässlicher Klotz» ist innen aber mit etwas nostalgischem Prunk punktet. Die Zimmer sind nett aber für die Preisklasse etwas klein, dies gilt für allem für das Bad. Das Bett hat einen sehr angenehme, bequeme Matratze und verfügt über genügend Kissen. wenn man nicht immer ein Taxi nehmen möchte braucht man nur über die Straße und ist an der U-​Bahn genauso wie im Stadtpark.

Nice building but a bit far from the center. There is a train stop right in front so it’s a great place to start or end your trip at as it’s an easy ride to the airport.

Es ist ja von außen nicht gerade ein architektonisches Schmuckstück. Von innen schaut es schon besser aus. Zentral gelegen ist es auch. Und nachdem die Johannesgasse ja von der Kärntner Straße bis zum Stadtpark geht, liegt es in derselben Gasse wie mein ehemaliger Arbeitsplatz. Und so hatten wir es einmal nicht weit zu einem Empfang am Nationalfeiertag der Republik Namibia organisiert von dessen Botschaft.
Das war lecker! Es gab Meeresfrüchte aux mas und so stürzte ich mich auf die gegrillten Garnelen. Eine nach der anderen wurde verschlungen und dazwischen ein Gläschen Sekt. Tja, das sind doch die besten Tage — die Nationalfeiertage anderer Länder. Es hat ja jemand mal ausgerechnet, dass es nur vier Tage im Jahr gibt, an denen nicht irgendein Land irgendeinen Feiertag hat. Da lob’ ich mir dann aber auch das Sprichwort von den Festen, die man feiern soll, wie sie fallen.
Und bei der Warnung eines Kollegen, dass man auf Garnelen einen Eiweißschock bekommt, hab’ ich mir gedacht: «Na, ich riskier’s mal, ob das wirklich so ist.»

Gut, Zimmer hab ich noch keines von Innen gesehen — musste nicht sein, will nicht sein, zumindest noch nicht…
um ab und an nach einer Nacht in der Hotel-​Bar nicht mehr nach Hause gondeln zu müssen wär das aber durchaus praktisch…
als ich dort das erste Mal war, war alles gewohnte vergessen. Hier war ich, ein paar hübsche Damen an meiner Seite, Nüsse am Tisch, Jazz live mit Klavier und Kontrabass, und eine 5 Euro Flasche Coca Cola… die Dekadenz meines Lebens hatte ihren Höhepunkt erreicht und beschlossen diese Höhe mal nicht so schnell zu beenden — Es war nicht der Prunk im eigentlichen… es war einfach die vorherrschende Stimmung, die Ruhe, die Musik, die Extravaganz und Exzentrik der Menschen run herum — und einige schienen sehr wohl aus einer gar anderen Welt zu stammen… man hat uns ausgehalten und wir sind versunken in den bequemen Polstermöbel.
Und vier Stunden vergehen recht schnell und eine Flasche Cola trinkt sich an so manchen Tagen dann doch merkwürdig langsam.
Nach Hause wollte keiner, aber weil ein Zimmer hier noch nicht zur Debatte stand und sich kein gönnerhaftes Gesicht zeigte, fand sich der Weg retour am Ende doch — aber dafür per Taxi.

Das «Interconti» oder «Interontinental» zählt zu den besten 5 Sterne Häusern in ganz Österreich.
Von außen sieht es schrecklich aus.
Weder alt noch modern. Wie ein misslungener Plan eines Architekten.
Dafür ist es innen umso schöner.
Was die Zimmer betrifft, da kann man sich streiten ob sie nun gut aussehen oder nicht. Sie sind einfach nicht mein Geschmack.
Die Lage ist ganz gut. Genauso wie andere Hotels, befindet sich das «Interconti» beim Stadtpark.
Neben dem «Interconti» hat man die Möglichkeit im Winter eislaufen zu gehen, oder im Sommer einen Cocktail in «Sand in the city» genießen.
Möchtest du mehr Info zu «Sand in the city» haben, dann gib einfach mal bei suche «Sand in the city» ein.
Wenn ich im «Interconti» Gast wäre, würde ich ganz sicher den Wellnessbereich nutzen.
Sauna, Solarium, Dampfbad, sowie Schönheitsbehandlungen und Massagen.
Natürlich brauch ich kein Solarium, bin sowieso schon von Natur aus leicht gebräunt.
Und die Schönheitsbehandlungen brauch ich auch nicht, weil…

Von außen recht nüchtern offenbart dieses Hotel seine Klasse erst, wenn man es betritt. Eine Eingangshalle mit sehr hohen Decken, getäfelten Wänden und viel Marmor.
Die Zimmer sind sehr stilvoll eingerichtet. Der Stil ist eher edel und gediegen.
Der Service ist sehr aufmerksam und hilfsbereit. Es bleibt kein Wunsch unerfüllt.
Die Lage im 1. Bezirk direkt am Stadtpark ist top. Einzig die hohen Zimmerpreise können unter Umständen davor abschrecken hier einzuchecken.

My second favourite business hotel in Vienna, this is very nice inside, actually has a decent restaurant (MediteraNeo, if it’s still going), good gym and sauna facilities (but no pool).
It’s directly opposite the Stadtpark U-​bahn station and just a short walk from the centre.

Das Interconti ist sicherlich ein Platzhirsch in Wien — allerdings ein alter. Schauen wir uns das Ganze mal in verschiedenen Blickwinkeln an.
Vorbemerkung: Ich gehe in der Bewertung von 5-​Sterne-​Qualität aus, und gehe auf die Punkte ein, die davon abweichen.
=Lage=
Zentral und nett gelegen, am Stadtpark im (glaube ich) 1. Bezirk.
=Gebäude=
Von aussen ein hässlicher Klotz, von innen gediegen und stilvoll eingerichtet.
=Service=
Grundsätzlich gut und um den Kunden bemüht. Leider nicht immer zuverlässig — mal geht eine Reservierung verloren, mal kommt das Housekeeping nicht schade. Ansonsten ist das Personal schnell und freundlich.
=Zimmer=
Ziemlich stilvoll, deutlich mehr in Richtung gediegen denn modern. Das Haus ist schon ein paar Jahre alt, und das merkt man der Ausstattung auch an. Die Fernseher sind ein dauerndes Ärgernis, da 90% brummen wie ein Umspannwerk. Die Betten sind sehr weich gepolstert. Die Bäder sind verhältnismäßig klein, und am Spiegel würde ich mir zum Rasieren ein helleres Licht wünschen.
=Umbau der Executive Floors=
Bis Februar 2009 sind die Stockwerke 9 – 11 im Umbau, das heißt auch wenn man ein Executive Zimmer gebucht hat, kommt man in einem normalen Zimmer unter. Das heißt auch dass die Executive Lounge in einen Sall im Erdgeschoss ausgelagert ist. Da findet man zwar auch die gewohnten Annehmlichkeiten (Eigener check-​in, Frühstücksbuffet, Snacks und Getränke for free von 9 – 22:30), aber the real deal ist es doch nicht ganz. Am meisten stören allerdings die manchmal sehr lautstark hörbaren Umbauarbeiten — wenn mich um 07:30 ein Bohrmeißel aus dem Schlaf reißt, habe ich echt keine gute Laune ;-)
=Gesamteindruck=
Das Haus in Wien ist derzeit deutlich gehandicapt, den legendären Interconti-​Ruf umzusetzen. Das macht das Hotel noch lange nicht schlecht — man sollte sich aber durchaus auch nach den nahe gelegenen Alternativen (Radisson, Hilton) umsehen.

Das Intercontinental Wien ist eines der Grand Hotels der Stadt und definitiv unter den TOP 3 anzusiedeln.
Der Service eines jeden Mitarbeiters war einfach umwerfend gut, zuvorkommend und stets freundlich.
Das Frühstücksbuffet läßt sich bei den Punkten Frische und Auswahl nicht übertreffen und ist sicherlich das Beste Hotelfrühstücksbuffet in Wien.
Die Zimmer sind entweder zum Stadtpark oder zum Wiener Eisverein gelegen und sind großzügig geschnitten. Die Ausstattung läßt keine Wünsche offen und läd einfach zum relaxen ein.
Die Bar ist klassisch und bietet einen wundervolle Cocktail und Whiskeykarte, auf der jedermann fündig werden wird.
Alles in allem ist das Intercontinental Wien DAS 5 Sterne Hotel in Wien.
