Trattoria Santo Stefano

Direkt vorm Hawelka gelegen — in einer Seitenstraße vom Graben in Wien.
Keine Touri-​Abzocke.
Sehr freundliches Personal, Essen war schnell fertig, Pizza war gut und die Toiletten sauber.
Man kann nicht meckern.

Christmas Eve dinner here was very lovely in an Italian fare restaurant. Service was excellent! Prices were moderate, with menus posted outside so you can decide before you enter the restaurant. Bread was baguette: fresh, good quality and very typical of french/​italian fare (which is why I think other reviews didn’t like the bread or thought it was stale). Real butter only was served. I had the Minestrone soup, which was an excellent onion & beef broth with lots of vegetable bits. My sister had a lovely pasta dish (rigatoni?) and I enjoyed a very good lasagna. All food was obviously homemade (made in house) and of very good quality. For dessert, we chose the chocolate torte, which was also very good quality. We couldn’t eat everything, so our waiter kindly packed leftovers in an easy to carry, pretty white bag for take away. Excellent experience with service and food! Location is very convenient, also. They are affiliated with a hotel attached but the entrance is on the street.

Very cozy, nice people, good service. The pizza and wine was very good. If you don’t want Schnitzel this a great option.

Pasta was perfect. Bread was cold and bordering on stale. Service was just OK. Location was fantastic just from the central shopping promenade.

Dinner time. When we entered the restaurant we were approached by a waiter, to wohm we asked for a table.
After looking up and down to us for three times without looking us in the eyes, and checking our casual all day tourist outfit (polo shirts, denim trousers and sneakers) he tried to offer us a table in kind of downgraded, second class room they have aside the main room with different furniture, different ambiance, different everything.
Checking several free tables in the main room we asked if we could be seated in the main room. After making sure we saw his discontempt with our request he agreed to give us a table in the main room. When we sat down and after that little scene form the waiter, we were surprised to check how casual the other guests were. We wondered if our «problem» was our 8 year old… Really bad way to «welcome» guests and to introduce what should have been a nice experience.
Following to the food me and my wife we both asked for fried squid. What can say… it was good they had placed some bread and butter on the table (for which we paid 4.5 € without having asked for it) or otherwise we would have to look for a second meal somewhere else, so much they have spared on the quantity of the food. For the 14 € a dish, the amount of the portion was ridiculously small, adding to the fact the food was at most average on quality and presentation.
At the end we decided to leave a 5% tip to our table waiter, just because he had been normally nice (when compared with his first colleague) but appatently that was not enough for him as he nodded sarcastically when he saw he was receiving a 2.5 Eur tip. For us this was already too much for an experience tjat should worth 0 € tip. We regret we were naïve enough to even leave a tip.
Bad service, below average food for above average prices. After all just another facet of the generalized unwelcoming and unfriendly hosting attitude Viena offers its rather massified tourism.

Close to the big street, but not direct on the big street, so you feel calmer atmosphere.

Wir sind zufällig in das Lokal gegangen. Es liegt nämlich total versteht in einer Seitengasse. Nachdem man als Tourist eh immer Angst hat im Stadtzentrum in eine Touristenfalle zu geraten, wurden wir hier nicht enttäuscht!
Beim Betreten des Lokals hatte man auch den Eindruck, dass zahlreiche Einheimische dort waren.
Dass das Essen wirklich sehr, sehr schnell kam, läßt anfangs auch nicht vermuten, dass es gut ist.
Wir hatten Pizza und Schnitzel. Das Preis– /​Leistungsverhältnis war wirklich sehr gut und die Pizza hatte so viel Belag, dass ich Schwieirigkeiten hatte, alles aufzuessen. Der Rand war sehr dünn und knusprig.
Der Service war aufmerksam und sehr freundlich.
Ich kann dieses Restaurant wirklich empfehlen.

Tried the macaroni with red sauce and pepper and enjoyed it. Maybe considered as more of a kids meal, but it was only 7 euros. The bread they bring you was really good too, however, they didn’t inform us it was 4.50 euros to get more and when we requested more they just brought it without informing us.

Excellent service and great quality food. We had the cold antipasto bar which contained numerous selections of cold salads, some seafood, some vegetables, very nice selection. Two of us ordered the Wiener schnitzel special, one the truffle oil pasta. All meals were excellent. We ended with the profiteroles which were uniquely rolled in a chocolate mousse, fantastic! Good selection of wine and beer as well. Our waiter was very nice and very friendly.
We would definitely recommend and definitely return.

Das Restaurant ist absolut zu empfehlen. Leckeres Essen zu üblichen Preisen. Die Kellner sind auch für einen Spaß zu haben.

Wäre nur noch zu ergänzen, dass man im Sommer draussen sitzen kann, aber fast nur Touristen dort essen.

Preis Leistung angemessen/​leicht hoch.
Lage sehr zentral. Gute Wahl wenn man bummelt.

Mittagsmenü zu einem super Preis. Salat und Pasta (wählbar) waren lecker. Der Service war gut aber noch etwas ausbaufähig. 1,50 Euro pro Gedeck darf nicht vergessen werden. Dafür gibts Baguette und Butter. Die Lage ist perfekt und in einer ruhigen Seitengasse gelegen.

Ein Nachmittag in der Innenstadt. Gefüllt wurde die Tasche. Der Magen kann das nicht von sich sagen. Ich lasse ihn auch nicht zum Reden kommen. Also lieber schnell ruhig stellen.
Die Begleitung will wissen, wo es gut ist. Pizza mit Originalität belegt — nicht mit Plastikkäse und Pressschinken. So lasse ich mich überzeugen. Und die Schritte führen zur Trattoria Santo Stefano.
Gegenüber vom oiden Hawelka versteckt sich hinter rot-​weißer Fassade mit goldenen Sonnen ein Stück Italien. Nobel gedeckt. Mit verbilderten Wänden. An Reservierungen reich. Wir finden trotzdem noch ein Plätzchen. Unter geflochtenen Korblampen, flankiert von einer Division von Weinflaschen, die, wie Soldaten gereiht, die Wandregale säumen, nimmt man hier Platz neben der Rustikalität. Das Antipasti-​Buffet spektakulär und raumgreifend in die Mitte der Gaststube gesetzt.
Das Servierpersonal ist gut geschult — kein Wunder, ist die Trattoria doch ein Abkömmling der Kremslehner Hotelbetriebe. Der figlio italiano.
Und die Pizza? Ja, tatsächlich. Schmuckstück ist die «Santo Stefano». Klar, wer den Namen trägt, trägt auch die Verantwortung. Mit Mozzarella, Lachs, Rohschinken, frisch gehobeltem Parmesan und viel frischem Rucola, der erst zum Schluss über dem Belag verteilt wird. Überzeugend.
Qualität hat natürlich ihren Preis. Tourismus genauso. Zahlt man hier aber gerne. Zumindest für Ersteres. Deswegen in puncto Zweiterem: am Besten zu einem viel zu späten Mittagessen hingehen. Da sitzt man dann fast alleine hier.

nur zwei minuten vom stephandsom entfernt, ein bisschen ruhiger als die lokale direkt davor weil nur eine seitenstrasse.
ja, die können dienstleistung buchstabieren. um mehr punkte zu geben war ich nicht lange genug dort. beim nächsten mal mach ich ein abendessen draus und bleib länger.

Die Lokalität war ein Zufallsfund, liegt direkt gegenüber des Café Hawelka.
Das Restaurant ist wie eine typische italienische Trattoria eigerichtet und daran orientierend hatten wir dann natürlich Pasta.
Speisenqualität war ganz okay, Preise-​/​Leistungsverhältnis sogar sehr gut.(7,90 für die Pasta).
Wein ebenfalls in Ordnung.
Vielleicht war es ein singuläres Ereignis aber ich habe selten so neugierige Kellner erlebt. Zuerst haben sie den Tisch neben uns abgeräumt, dann wieder aufgedeckt und dann wieder abgeräumt.
Sehr komisch.
Daher auch nur drei Sterne.

Solides Essen zu guten Preisen, hier wird rustikale italienische Küche geboten. Für knapp 50EUR für 2 Personen bekamen wir einen guten klassischen Risotto mit Funghi (Pilzen), mein Geschäftspartner perfekt abgekochte Nudeln. Vorneweg Focaccia (ein Fladenbrot auf Hefebasis), eine absolute Seltenheit außerhalb Italiens, abgerundet mir sehr gutem Espresso. Für ein Business Lunch, ein guter Preis!
