For me, the claim to fame and main reason to visit is the washroom door disguised as a Dr. Who style blue police booth. I didn’t find the coffee to be that good. It’s standard«authentic» italian-canadian coffee, which is probably how I think coffee tasted in Italy 25 – 30 years ago, before ISO-9001 and other modern standards of quality assurance in mass production were developed. If you think Starbucks makes good coffee though, then you’ll be perfectly happy with this rather mediocre brew. Prices are quite cheap. Probably good to splurge and spend all $ 5 worth on the large breakfast platter. It’s a nice neighborhood hangout for the regulars. Can’t beat the Seinfeld reruns on the flatscreen TV.

Toast was burnt. Eggs were WAY over cooked. Bacon was undercooked. Dirty environment. Overall terrible!

This place has been on my bucket list for years whenever I would get my hair done at the salon, however, for one reason or another I would either forget just or never have time after my appointment. I finally got here as one of the Meet Up groups that I just joined was hosting a stitch and bitch. The place is a decent size with a large patio. Most of the patrons are elderly Italian men with the exception of the crafting geeks meet up. Service is friendly and prices are very reasonable. I had a mint tea on ice. This is what makes this place even more awesome… The door on the bathroom looks like a Dr. Who tardis. There is also comic book related art that adorns the walls.

I come here in the morning for an iced caramel machiatto before work sometimes and have to say that this is one of the best, if not the best I’ve ever gone to for any type of coffee beverage. John, the owner I believe, delivers every single time. They have reasonably priced bevarages and their paninis are spectacular as well. Their sandwiches come with chips and dip which makes for a great meal. Their gelato is devine, better than glenburns up the street I would say. All in all, everything I’ve tried on their menu was perfect and that goes for service as well!

We came for lunch on a weekend and the place was empty. The guy behind the counter was really nice, but he was sick and coughed into his hands before starting to prepare some food. We cancelled our orders(he hadn’t started making anything yet) and left without trying it. The menu doesn’t have nearly any of the options shown in pictures on Unilocal.(Pizza, sandwiches, and salad are all I remember.) Maybe you can ask for anything and they’ll put it together for you? Or new management?

I did a standup set there this week at an open mic — and was delightfully surprised at both the selection and quality of food. I had the Fontana quesadilla, and it was delicious, with just a little heat from the spice. The décor is basic, but clean and cozy(and livened up with some great geek tchotchkes), and the selection of board games is one of the better ones I’ve seen in town. Really friendly owner made me feel completely welcome. I could easily see holding events here, with a large wing of the room ready and waiting for a crowd.

Had my father’s celebration of life and used LA fontana for catering. We had a great assortment of food and everything was so great. I would highly recommend john for catering. Thanks for the great spread.

The food and latte here is quite good. The only thing is that it is very loud in here, and I mean VERY loud. If you are planning to be here to sit down and chat with a friend or to work on your computer, not the right place to be. But to have a sandwich or a coffee, not a bad place to be.

It’s changed a bit more upscale from a soccer-mad café 5 – 7 years ago, i recall their huge Italian flag draped in the ‘back’ wall, but it’s the main wall where the TV was lol. It’s gone a bit more Banana Republic-like last month when I dropped by, yet the food’s still top quality – always order the chicken quesadillas, with its generous portion of cheese, & chips, great salsa & cream. I’ve also had their tuna melt sandwich, another winner. But not their fruit smoothies, forgot to ask if it was natural, alas they use a strawberry purée. but it’s totally casual here, you can sit as long as you want working or yakking on the phone… usually i see a bunch of italian retirees having a good time sipping their espressos. If you’re a regular like me, you can order first & pay later. Nice italian 2 guys who still running the show. a few board games too. plenty of parking all around the block.

When in Burnaby this is my spot. The owner John always takes care of me with whatever I need. Different great lunch specials daily.

The owner, John, is great! He’s super friendly and seems to know everybody in the area. The café has a lovely ambiance, what with its tight-knit community of older, Italian men who come in for cappuccinos and espressos while playing cards or watching soccer on the tv. It’s very cute, actually. I definitely recommend trying the mocha — it’s delicious! The bread used for the paninis is wonderful as well, house-made with rosemary! It’s nice and flaky and crumbly when you bite into it, SO good.

This is a great little place to get a real cup of coffee. During the day it’s full of Italian men playing traditional card games and sipping espresso. At night it becomes a mecca for the unique individual. Some times it’s for sci-fi fans and others it full of people sharing knitting tips. Make sure you find out what the owner Gian has added to the menu for the day. It’s always homemade with fresh ingredients.

Very excellent coffee and Americano. Pretty much on par with my favourite Salt Spring Coffee, except my Americano did get a tiny bit of the sour aftertaste by the bottom 1⁄3 of the cup. Friendly welcoming atmosphere. Eclectic wall hangings — from pin-up art to Casablanca to Star Trek. A couple groups of old Italian seniors playing cards and having a jolly time. There is fair selection of board games. A coffee shop like this makes me wish I lived in this neighbourhood. Only VISA accepted.

Where in Vancouver can you get a café style ambience with board games and such a great owner who would actually come and play with you too? On top of that there is a large viewing room for movies and TV shows too. oh btw, the owner is a geek himself! :D He has a Serenity poster up on the side and I LOVEIT! :D The food here is great, large plates of food with good quality ingredients. All very down to earth good, and all delicious. :D I love their Paninis as they are extremely delicious. I love their food. The drinks I must try, and their deserts as I heard they are as great as their food. I heard there is a small area for Karaōke too, and they love to have large parties coming in here for small awesome events! Boardgames? Videogames? Filming Projects? and other such? the owner is very happy that there are always people in here doing something and having a great time! I will come here more often as it is so welcoming and such a great place to hang out!

shh. don’t tell anyone I told you but this place is a diamond in the rough! It’s tucked away and occasionally the front end is filled with chatty old fellows(don’t mind them, they clear out eventually) If you’ve been looking for a place to hang out, catch your favorite TV show, movie or meet new people while enjoying delicious, fresh, handmade to order food. this is THE place to stop. The owner Gian opens his doors to all paying customers, and welcomes you to sit back and visit. Occasionally the Wii is going on the big screen, sometimes it’s Glee night or DR. WHO night. Other times you’ll find crafty geeks doing super fun stuff. The coffees I’m told are delicious. myself I LOVE the chai latte YUM! There’s always a new daily special, most recently sweet potatoe gnocchi with fresh pesto. can you say heavenly cloud-like tender morsels? You just have to ask, and you’ll find there’s something for everyone to do or taste here.

Hello Unilocalers. I just moved to town and was looking for a place to get some wi-fi and ended up here. The owner/operator, I believe his name is John seems super cool. I got a sandwich and a coffee which were both excellent. I would definitely come back to this place if I’m in the neighborhood. The old italian guys hanging around is also kind of cool, although I’m not a huge fan of cigar smoke, the patio is a nice feature.

I didn’t have a chance to try the coffee or desserts here but I would have to say the atmosphere warrants 4.5 stars. If you are looking for an airy, comfortable mom & pop coffee shop that doesn’t have the commercialized feel of Starbucks, Blenz, Café Artigiano, or Waves, this is the place to be. The coffee shop also has a dance floor(too cool, eh?) and a projector, hence why several movie enthusiast groups(classical and sci-fi I believe) meet here. All in all, a great place to study, work on group projects or just chat with friends. Note to self: try the food and coffee so you can write a more helpful review.

LFC is one the best places to hang and enjoy great homemade eats and bevies. On top of all that, LFC is often a sci-fi event hotspot.

As a science fiction fan, I have long had my eyes open, looking for a «fan friendly» place to hold fan club meetings. Well, I’ve found it. La Fontana has room for lots of people(over 100 came out for the final episode of Battlestar Galactica), not one but two large screen TVs, and a wider selection of menu choices than a place like Starbucks or Blenz, but what makes it really special is that the manager is a fan himself. He really goes out of his way to make things happen for fan groups. From opening outside of his normal business hours, to adding event-specific items to the menu, to dressing up for the occasion, nothing seems to be too much effort to welcome groups. I predict that La Fontana is going to be THE fan hangout in the Lower Mainland for the next few years.
