Spa Ovarium

The feeling of sleeping in a flotation tank (similar to a Star Trek sleep pod) is like snorkeling into a shallow deep sea. Initially scary. Lie down ears submerged… a soundless void… the water so thick (high density Epsom salt bath), you float. Close my eyes. Eventually, become one with the water… fluid, shapeless, calm, and at peace. Feel a heart echo through space. It is my own. a shadow. A jellyfish stalker. I’m daydreaming now? Sensory deprivation has very cool effects!!! I love their peach tisane tea, very accommodating. I hear the experience is different for everyone.

I just did the floatation bath, not the massage or Pulsar light therapy. It was a very interesting experience. Basically, you’re led into your own individual room with one of the floatation baths, which from the outside looks like a personal space craft right out of Star Trek, but you open it up and lo and behold! It’s full of half and half water and Epsom salts warmed exactly to body temperature, lighted in funky indigo blue, to such a high degree of concentration that you basically float in the water without even trying. Imagine being at the Dead Sea in Palestine/​Israel and you get the idea.
The idea of the floatation talk is that you go in, close the hatch, float, close your eyes and just let go of everything. Honestly, I think the reason why so many people love this is that on a subconscious level, it probably reminds many people of being back in your mom’s womb, in utero. This was a first-​time experience for me and I’m glad I tried it but I don’t think it’s going to be a regular feature for me. The water is SUPER slippery so be careful with that. I also have to agree that 1 hour was a bit long for me though I can see the benefit if you’re super, super stressed.
Facilities are super-​clean, the attendants who explained everything to me were very nice and cordial, and it’s literally a block and a half away from Beaubien metro. It’s definitely a place worth checking out especially in the winter time.

Depuis le temps que j’entendais parler du Spa Ovarium… Et bien concrètement, mon conjoint et moi né regrettons pas notre expérience.
Premier constat: le Spa Ovarium possède tout le building, et on peut dire que l’espace est sacrément bien optimisé! D’innombrables salles de soin, plusieurs salles d’attente, des éléments de décorations zen,… ah ça non, ils né lésinent pas sur les moyens.
Toujours à l’affût de nouveauté, le forfait La Totale (Pulsar 30 min + NeuroSpa 30 min + Bain-​Flottant 60 min + massage 60 min) m’a permis de découvrir des soins que j’ignorais jusque là.
Une logistique impeccable, tout est bien cadré et calculé. Le court intervalle entre les différents soins permet de passer aux toilettes ou encore de boire eau et/​ou thé à volonté dans la salle d’attente. Quelqu’un vient vous chercher et vous explique le soin si c’est votre première fois. Peut-​être dommage de passer d’un employé à un autre durant le circuit, turnover me privant de tout contact privilégié. Néanmoins j’ai apprécié d’être traitée comme une personne normale alors que j’avais bénéficié d’un tarif spécial via Groupon.
Mon soin préféré: le massage Lomi-​atsu prodigué par France Lefebvre. Mon conjoint a également adoré son massage sportif réalisé par un kiné, parfait pour relâcher son corps de danseur. Nous reviendrons à coup sûr, uniquement pour nous refaire masser.

All of the services are there to get you nice and relaxed and boy do they ever succeed!
Pulsar is a basically a light show projected on your eyelids through some funky glasses accompanied by music. Every time, I come oh so very close to just falling asleep because I’m so calm.
NeuroSpa is a magnificent massage chair/​pod that vibrates you into a state of near coma-​sleep. It’s so good that tou just have to try it out. There are no words.
The floating baths are perfect, pristine facilities, well explained process by the staff and a sensory deprivation experience like no other. Basically you get to the point where you’re not sure where your body ends and the water starts.
I just tried their massages and was once again delighted. Don’t hold back, go!!!

Ovarium seemed so mysterious, I’d been dying to go for more than a year now. Well, thanks to a trusty Groupon, the mystery is no more!
I had booked a Pulsar, Neurospa and flotation bath, in that order, for a total of 3 hours. First, I should say that it had been a very stressful day, add to that the fact that I was curious and unfamiliar with my surroundings, so I never really relaxed, but that’s in no way related to Ovarium. I’m sure if I were to go back, I’d go with the flow a lot more.
I was worried about the Pulsar, having bright coloured lights flashing 1 inch in front of my eyes didn’t seem fun, until I fell asleep, only to wake up super energized afterwards! The whole thing lasts about 30 minutes, which is ample time to relax and refuel. Afterwards, I was ushered into another section of the spa, for my Neurospa. You are lounging in an oversized chair, which emits deep vibrations to music. The goal is for your whole body to unwind over time. This sounds swell, and it is, but I could never let go of the fact that, ohmygod, I’m in a pram! It’s a pram! It’s an oversized adult pram, complete with overhead cap that the personnel unfolds over you. I found it all very funny, and the purpose was defeated slightly. In the end, this is a lot more relaxing than the Pulsar, and I was sleepy when my time was up.
The bath, as others have described, is egg-​shaped but the door opens and closes, and the inside/​outside lights up or not depending on your preference and comfort level. It’s a whole procedure: you have to shower and wash your hair first, then descend into the egg, and float for a good hour. You can control both the egg’s door/​light/​music from the inside! I chose to go for full silence/​darkness, which I don’t regret at all! It took me a while to get relaxed; if you’re pint-​sized like I am, you’ll find it’s totally easy to rotate in the pod, tour the pod, flip-​flop around, and none of that is very meditative. Still, the sensation of floating is great, and the salts make your skin ridiculously smooth afterwards (but very slick during the bath, it’s surreal). A soft carillon tells you your time is up, and off you go back into the shower.
My main gripe here is with the space itself: after any treatment, you are ushered back into a fairly public waiting area by the door, before being picked up and guided somewhere else, which undermined any relaxation for me. The biggest exemple is after the bath, you’ve taken your shower and shampooed your hair, aaaand… you have to walk the whole nine yards, and meet the whole waiting area to go and dry it in the vanity room. The staff accompanying you is ever changing, which makes it awkward i think, so you’ll start a treatment with one person, and awake to someone new. Eh.
Once again, I think my experience was altered by my own state of mind, so your mileage may vary. Regardless I’d love to be back, mainly for the baths and maybe try the massages.

Depuis près de cinq ans, j’ai des problèmes de genoux assez importants. Je n’aime pas trop les anti-​douleurs car ils bloquent toute sensation dans mes genoux et m’empêche de savoir quand je devrais cesser mes activités pour éviter de me blesser.
Ça fait maintenant un an que je connais Ovarium et je dois dire que j’apprécie énormément les services qui y sont offerts. Une fois aux deux mois, je vais flotter pour une heure dans le noir et le silence le plus total. La sensation d’apesanteur est le meilleur remède à mes douleurs.
Le personnel est accueillant et sympathique. L’ambiance calme et relaxante fait instantanément descendre le niveau inhérent de stress dû à la vie de tous les jours.
En plus des bains flottants, j’ai aussi essayé le Pulsar et le Neurospa qui sont deux excellente façon de relaxer et de vivre des sensations uniques.

I booked a massage for both my friend and I at the same time. The receptionist was welcoming, kind and enthusiastic. We made our way to the waiting room… Her therapist arrived on time and mine was 5 minutes late… no big deal until I found out my massage therapist was sick, kept clearing her throat and blew her nose in the middle of my session. After I got over the gross factor, the massage itself was still effective in getting rid of the stress and knots in my back. I had a hard time not focusing on the creaky wood floors as she made her way around me though. When it was over, I met my friend in the lounge area where complimentary tea is provided. Her therapist served her the beverage whereas mine didn’t. All in all, not too impressed.

the «ovarium» branding is quite clever, but once I stepped in i was underwhelmed by the furniture (very 80’s), and the massage areas (also very 80’s), even the washrooms looked like they could be modernized… the massage was regrettably disappointing, and not quite as good as in other spas in Montréal. If you never had a massage, that’s a good place to start, if you have (and have higher expectattions), then look elsewhere.

Located in montreal, you will not have trouble finding parking since it is not downtown! In my opinion, the massage are very professional and good.
The flotation bath is very fun to try but i wasn’t totally comfortable sleeping «on the water»
The pulsar is a very good way to relax but i found it was way too quick! I wouldn’t mind sleeping in that chair for longer :)
My only complaint would be that there is no locker.
No problem for summer time but when it’s winter i do not feel comfortable leaving my winter jacket there and personal belonging.
Of course i can bring them with me but i find it very wierd and unpleasant to carry my belonging when i’m paying to come «relax».
Overall good experience. I will definitely repeat the massage. i just hope that next time they will put some locker.

Went here about a year ago with a friend for massages, and the floatation bath experience. It was… interesting to say the least. Massages were great and staff were very professional. As for the floating bath… let’s just say it was a one time only sort of experience for me. I got quite bored, and didn’t find it all that relaxing. An hour for me was too long — maybe a 30 min option would have been better. However, overall, great spa!

Not only they have bad customer service over the phone. they employees aren’t any better… I was helped by a male employe (whose name I don’t remember) who treated me as if I was a leper or had a contagious disease. The flotation bath was OK, I can relax in my own bathtub with hot water and Epsom salts (in the comfort of my own home) and with all the towels I need. I may not float but I won’t be spending a wad of money. I found really crappy that they give you just one towel and nothing to put on the floor after the bath. the floor gets very slippery because the feet are wet with the gooey water… so after the relaxation you may end up falling flat on your tush or even worse, breaking a bone. and in the dark, since the light switch is away from the cabin and cannot be seen… Will I come back to have another «amazing experience» at this spa… you can guess my answer…

The flotation bath is something that kinda freaked me out because of the confined space you are placed in. It was overall a interesting experience not something I would do often.
If you are cluster-​phobic, this is really not for you.

Im a self-​professed workaholic, internet hoarder, and insomniac! I got a package deal to the Ovarium for my birthday and it was an amazing experience!
I got the Pulsar Light, Floatation Bath and then a Massage in that order, and though, I was super skeptical about the Pulsar, that had to be one of the best relaxation time ever!
So the glasses were on, the music started playing, and after what seemed like 30 seconds the session was over. In fact I had gone into the deepest mode of relaxation in my life. Apparently it was more like 30 minutes and the attendent couldn’t get me to stir, so my bf had to get me up which he said took an additional few minutes to do so! I felt so refreshed after that, it felt like I had rested for hours!
Of the 3 I admittedly did not have an easy time in the floatation bath, but I think the experience for me was a bit strange. it took me quite some time to get used to it, and when I finally relaxed enough to let my mind go, I floated to a corner, and got a bit sketched out because my body floated to one side, and not sure if I was asleep or not, but It made me jumpy. After that I was too wound up again to relax.
The massage was heaven, I tried to stay conscious through out the massage but I think I was snoring (how embarassing) about 5 minutes into it. I have severe pain in my body due to arthritis and spondylitis, so I found that my body felt so great to have been worked on.
The staff was great, they were kind and accommodating. The prices were really reasonable considering spa packages out there. The place was clean and quiet, tea was served, and you get a receipt for extended med benefits. I felt so pampered! I am looking forward to going there again when my Mom comes to town!

Hands down my favourite spa. Anywhere. I’ve been a regular client here for the past few years, and the quality and service have been consistently exceptional and exceptionally consistent. Love love love it.
I do have to say, though, that while the flotation baths get all the hype (and hey, they ARE great!) the pulsar sessions are what really keep me coming back for more. As to the massages — they have been some of the best I have ever received. The friends I have referred here have been equally happy with their experiences. This applies to both male and female friends … yes, guys, despite the (somewhat creepy?) name of this place, you will probably love the experience too.
I suggest booking the complete trio package later in the evening, since it’s so relaxing you will probably want to go to bed right afterwards anyways.
Ps. It’s about a block away from Metro Beaubien, so it’s super convenient to get to.

I needed a massage badly since I have accumulated major tension along my entire back and shoulder areas. I wanted to keep it simple since this would be my first time at Ovarium. I’ve been used to amazing massages in NYC and this would be my first massage in Montréal. The ambiance was really serene and the people who worked there were very helpful. The place was clean and quiet. I met with Monica, where she took me to my private room, tastefully decorated with calming background music. We took 5 min to go over any health issues and she asked me if I have any specific areas that needed specific attention. The massage was so soothing with good pressure. She was very professional and never spoke during the session, which is what I like. There is a small lounge where you can gather yourself after the massage to recompose– you know, grogginess post massage, and have tea or something to drink. I liked it so much I plan to return next week. Hopefully it will be a great experience as the first time.

Sensory experience and professionalism of the team made this place a haven of peace and a true urban oasis. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to live a moment of rest and relaxation. I would go back anytime!

I hover in a void of nothingness. I can’t see anything. I can’t feel anything. The only sound is that of my own heartbeat. Suddenly, the Song of Angels begins to fill my ears.
But this is no near-​death experience. I’m in an isolation chamber at Ovarium Spa in Montréal, and the Song of Angels is music being piped into my chamber to tell me my hour long flotation bath is about complete.
The flotation bath is one of three spa experiences in Ovarium’s «Revelation» package, designed to touch all (and none) of your five senses.
Pulsar
The Pulsar session is designed to stimulate the mind with a combination of lights and sound, which will encourage deep relaxation, meditation, creativity and intuition. The 30 minute session involves sitting in a reclining leather chair wearing a pair of glasses equipped with LED lights and headphones. The lights, preprogrammed to music, pulsate at a frequency which is supposed to induce a meditative state. Does this actually happen? Well, in my pulsar session I fell into a semi-​conscious, dream filled sleep almost immediately. While this has been known to happen to me on occasion without the glasses, I can’t help but assume they helped. I emerged feeling relaxed and refreshed, as if I’d just gotten a full night’s sleep. And for an extra $ 15, it was definitely worth the experience.
Flotation Bath
The flotation is a bath of 50% water, 50% Epsom salts, set at body temperature. Set in an isolation chamber, the bath blinds nearly all your senses. You float effortlessly, so you can completely relax your body. Because the water is set at room temperature, you don’t feel the water against your skin. You can control a dim blue light within the chamber and the room light outside the chamber (which leaves a faint outline around the door to the chamber). The spa suggests 30 minutes of music, followed by 25 minutes of silence before the Song of Angels begins, but you can opt to turn the music on and off at will. A bit claustrophobic, I began with the lights and music on, but turned them off once I became more comfortable. The trick is to completely relax your body, allow your ears to fall underwater, and just meditate while you hover. The isolation truly is an experience, and I highly recommend everyone try it.
Massage
An hour long massage is the final and most traditional treatment in the Revelation package. Ovarium offers a menu of different massage techniques, but rather than select one style, I explained my desires and allowed the masseuse to customize the massage to my needs. In a comfortable room with relaxing music and scented oils, my previously isolated senses were brought back to life with the professional human touch.
I was surprised how busy and crowded the lounges were; while I suppose that’s a testament to Ovarium’s popularity, it did make it difficult to maintain a deep level of relaxation between treatments. Such a large clientele also made it difficult to maintain the personal attention I’m used to receiving at a spa like this, and I often found myself having to wait for a seat or to use the facilities. But the staff was professional and hospitable, the facilities were clean and beautiful, and the almond tea was outstanding.
And the value was spot on. At $ 130, the Revelation package is an excellent value. I’ll definitely make Ovarium a regular part of my future Montréal vacations. I give it four and a half stars.

I was just in MTL for the week, and my visit to the Ovarium was the highlight that makes me wish I never left! The staff was friendly, informed and patient, and the spa itself super clean and inviting. I was scared to death to get into the ‘bath’, small enclosed spaces freak me out. It was safe feeling, though, and I recommend it to anyone and everyone! I live in California and after my 1hr soak got the ihr California massage, and it was AMAZING! The massage or soak on their own would’ve been awsome, but the 2 together was sheer bliss!
Let me tell you, the price was not cali-​style at all, it was a great price, for a wonderful service. I can’t wait seem to find anything like it out here. I can’t to go back!
