OK so you’re in a «reputable» bar/restaurant and the server brings you a beer in a broken glass with a sharp edge at the drinking area… it happens. In a «reputable» establishment it’s simple… oops sorry, and bring you a new beer… simple. But that’s at a decent/reputable establishment. At the paddlewheeler they do it a little different. They take that glass of beer and pour it into a new glass(possibly with a few glass splinters?) and give it back. WTF!!! Oh yes, a big tip will be left here! Not! Yes you have a great location, but that’s all you have. Wake up Aholes!

My wife and decided to go the Paddle Wheeler for dinner last night, we haven’t been for about a year because of the lousy food. We thought we’d give it another chance. Bad move, we walked and sat down at a dirty table.(I don’t mind the table being dirty as people had just left) When a waitress finally noticed us, took over 5 minutes, she took our drink and starter ordbut never wiped the table. I had to call her back to request that wipe the table, which she grudgingly did. They seemed to be understaffed and busy so I can understand having to wait but our individual was grouchy and seemed to spend more time talking to other staff than actually working. We ordered the mussels to start and they were ok but not very appetizing, they were dry without much of any sauce. I then ordered fish and chips and it was very blah, served in a plastic dish like you would see and dairy queen. My wifes salad was wilted and not very appetizing. I don’t think we will be going back. It’s a shame, this pub could be a real gem, especially with the outdoor patio. They need to revamp the menu, hire a chef and train their staff a little better.

Funny, I had no memory of the one issue here. We eat there often and it has been excellent since…

I like going to this pub for the nice view of Fraser River from the patio. Menu and drinks are good too, reasonably priced, service was a bit too slow but the waitress did thank me for waiting.

We decided to end off the night after grabbing sushi nearby with a nightcap at the neighbourhood pub recommended by our friends who live in the area. It was pretty packed as it was a Friday night but we were able to grab a table right away and seated ourselves. We all ordered a couple rounds of drinks which were reasonably priced. I ordered a martini and boy was it strong, but in my books, that’s a good thing and I got the value for what I paid. Our server was super attentive and came back right when we drinks were getting low. We didn’t order any food as we just had dinner but our friends had mentioned that the food here is decent — just your typical pub fare which you can’t expect too much of. Since it was raining and also winter, the patio obviously wasn’t open, but seeing as how this place is right on the water, the view is nice so I’m looking forward to grabbing a drink on the patio in the warmer months.

Passable neighbourhood pub that gets an older clientele and thus has more sensible noise levels than many others. The beer selection is good and local but food was a bit disappointing — previously frozen burger patty and fries. Add a star if it’s patio weather as the Paddlewheeler has a great river-front patio so there’s a good view and no road traffic noise.

Are you looking for a pub that has daily specials all week? Are you looking for a place with a huge patio? Are you looking for a place that plays UFC without charging cover? Well, you found it. The food is decent enough but it’s really everything else… I think it’s all the effort they put in; from the quick hot food and low prices, to the extremely friendly staff. Go for: ufc, a pub by the water, daily specials, good amount of seat space Don’t go for: quietness, large selection of craft beer, parking can suck

This place used to be good and has gone beyond downhill! Terrible servers! None of the servers or bartenders are genuine and nobody smiles! Sept 122015– Hanging with friends. They were already here and have drinks. I have been waiting 27 minutes and have not been asked by a server if I wanted a drink– I ended up having to go up to the bar and order I myself! Shirty customer service!

I have visited this place a couple of times now. Food is good, not brilliant but good. It is a pub after all. Friendly atmosphere and very nice to sit outside in the summer.

With a nice sunny day this place is perfect for sitting outside and savouring the view and the fresh air whilst eating nice food. The mussles were delicious. The staff is friendly and they do not rush you. Nice for weekend with family or friends.

Hello??? Does anyone serve here? My family came here yesterday(August 1st) after my sister’s wedding and it took 28 minutes for an acknowledgement. The time may have been quite a bit longer but after awhile we did keep time just for the fun of it. The place had a few empty tables and it wasn’t slammed so no excuse there. We eventually figured out that if we wanted to quench our thirsts, we would have to fend for ourselves. You know those places that have a great location and they figure that they don’t really have to serve you well? Yes? This is one of them. We are staying at the Inn On The Quay and we’ve all decided to give them another chance today so stay tuned…

The only reason people go to this pub is because of its location. This means that the owners have to focus very little on customer service, consistency, or their food. If you go here — plan on waiting over an hour for your food. The constant excuse I hear is that they’re short staffed. I can live with a restaurant being short staffed once in a while — but not every day of the week. To make matters worse — when you finally get your food, it’s terrible. The waitresses all have negative attitudes. I assume this is because they have likely raised their concerns about the short staffing to their respective managers with no avail. They also don’t respect the customers or apologize/take responsibility for their mistakes. We actually had to phone the bartender and ask him to send our waitress out after waiting 45 minutes for drinks. Avoid this bar like the plague. You will be glad you did. If a view is what you’re after, there are plenty of other bars on the New West quay that actually appreciate your business.

Nothing really exciting about this place. Has potential because of its location but its was meh! We came here for a quick lunch, the place we originally wanted to go to was closed(re-up bbq). It was a hot day patio was busy, we opted to seat inside. Lots of dirty tables around I guess we missed the lunch rush. We sat in a somewhat clean table, the server came by to wipe it. We ordered drinks, wrong ones came to our table. The menu is big, typical bar /pub food wing, burgers, salad so on. We waited awhile for our server to come take our order. The place is pretty big but at the time I only saw about 2 servers, so I understood the slow service. We thought of getting up and leaving because we were in a bit of a rush, but ended up staying. I ordered 1 fish & chips. It was ok, fries was super salty barely ate them the fish well lets just say it wasn’t great either. We asked for the bill and left.

If I could give this 0 stars I would. I go out often and write many reviews. Normally for great experiences. This time I am sorely disappointed. I had moved to new west about 6 months ago. Having never been to the quay side I decided last night was the night to meet a friend there. View was great. Being on the water. We got a patio table and the sun was shining. It then went downhill. Our server came over shortly after and took a drink order. It was belinni day so we opted for that. Worst choice ever. Liquid at the bottom in a super sweet mix and then some foamy peach tasting slush on top. You cannot even mix it together. Biggest waste of money for sure. We then waited 30 min to even get asked if we wanted another round or a drink once our glasses were empty. During that time we ordered food. Which took 40 minutes to arrive. I ordered my steak and was asked if I wanted mushrooms. So I said okay. Don’t! Not worth 2 bucks extra for this. You don’t get many. My steak was cooked properly but had zero flavor. We finally got some waters brought to us as we were half done our meals. No point in another drink. And then we waited until two bites left for any quality check. While it started busy it wasn’t by the time our food came or anything. The server couldn’t keep up. She kept apologizing for forgetting us. Even after when we needed a take out box for my friend she came by 7 times(yes I counted) without. Then came to the table and said she kept forgetting. Then went back and 4 minutes later came with the box. It was not cold and dark on the patio. She came with the checks and box and we paid. I felt obligated to leave a small tip but felt so ripped off. For 25 bucks I wanted to refuse to pay and leave. I’ve never had such bad experience and although the view and patio is great I won’t be going here again. Unless to enjoy the patio with friends that insist. I haven’t been this disappointed in a long time. And I’m sad to say this is right near my house and would otherwise be a perfect local spot. They need to learn what a Bellini is and good service. Either hire more servers or make the place smaller. You cannot sacrifice quality… In addition being on the quay you have pay parking. :( Only bonus was I loved all the food and drink specials daily. And noticed a cheap breakfast. But i guess I won’t be doing that now… unfortunately.. I slept on it debating to write my review but felt it was completely necessary.

Ok so we all know this is the biggest patio in New West and when it’s sunny it’s going to be slammed. I have huge empathy for servers/kitchen during patio season but this was the worst. We ordered S&P wings and when they came out plain we politely asked waitress to rectify order. She was not polite. Told us the order was correct. I took a bite and confirmed they were in fact plain. Again, I said I understand you are busy, but could you please correct our order. She took the wings back and came back with the same plate, half eaten wing on it, with some sprinkles of salt on top. At least throw away the half eaten wing so it looks like you tried! They voided the bill but still, we came there to eat!!! Errors happen in kitchen, we get that. But could have easily been rectified with good customer service. One of the wings also still had feathers on it.sick.

Now THIS is what a fabulous pub is all about… great staff(every server we have had has been friendly and attentive) They have daily food and beverage specials, their shrimp sandwich is simply delicious. The owner actually came up, introduced himself and personally welcomed us by also introducing us to their cute doggie mascot. On the huge patio is a great view of both the mighty Fraser River and people strolling along the boardwalk. Located at the New Westminster Quay.

Come early as they only have 1 room to accomodate customers with kids. First come first serve basis. Only place to have cheap wings at 35 cents each that I know in this area.

I was really excited to try out the Paddlewheeler Neighbourhood Pub with a friend of mine on a Saturday evening since I love the view from the Quay(so much so that I had some wedding photos taken in the area). However, the pub is a bit of a letdown. The patio itself is pretty nice, but the inside is definitely dated. There’s lots of TV’s around, and you can buy lottery tickets or play keno if you’re inclined, which makes this place a great location to watch a sports game. There’s lots of seating on either side of the bar, which makes it a good place for larger groups of six or more. When we first arrived, our waiter was efficient with our drink and food orders. I had a White Wine Sangria, which was alright and had lots of lemon and lime pieces. For food, I ordered the chicken strips with plum sauce and fries. The chicken strips were really good, but the fries were lackluster. They were really soft and not seasoned well. It didn’t help that there was a bit of leftover sauce or something on the edge of the container holding the fries, but it wasn’t worth bringing attention to since it wasn’t the waiter’s fault. Once we finished our meal and drink, a band started playing. The band was REALLY loud inside the pub. They weren’t bad by any means, but it was really hard to talk to my friend, and we were sitting as far away as possible from the band. We tried to get our bill, but it was really obvious that our waiter was significantly overworked. He had at least 4 tables on each patio(there’s a smoking side and non-smoking side), plus a huge group inside and our table. It took 30 minutes and me waving my credit card in the air frantically every time he glanced in our direction before he finally brought over our bill. He was really friendly, but I shouldn’t have to wait 30 minutes for my bill. It was really obvious that the pub was understaffed. I was underwhelmed by the Paddlewheeler, but I can see why people come here. The Paddlewheeler has a lot of charm, it’s just not the place for me.

This review is of a summer lunch my GFs and I had on the patio in summer ’13. It was a gorgeous day and we had some fun fruity drinks. I had the DFP which were not dip battered, it was more of a coating, like they had been rolled. They were still tasty but I prefer the other type if batter. Nothing leaves any impressions on me except the bees. I do remember be bothered by bees. Oh, the patio was quiet big but also very busy, I would make reservations if you can, especially in peak season.

Came here for some late night drinks. Parking is available along Columbia, or possibly along Front.(I walked here so I’m not sure about the direct vicinity) One interesting thing(good or bad depending on what you’re looking for) is that smoking is allowed in New Westminster patios. I was quite surprised. Something to keep in mind. With that said, there are 2 large patios out front, and I think one of them is non-smoking. Great view of the water here, although this section of the Fraser is honestly quite ugly. Unless looking at mills is your thing. The inside is a little old, and the carpeting is a bit sticky(ick!), but I’m guessing this place has been around for a while. Service was friendly, and the beers were cheap. Beautiful. As I did not eat here, I can’t comment on the food.
