Moody Ales

My and my fiancé stopped here one evening. It’s a neat place, fun and got quite busy. We seemed to be the «invisible» couple though, despite our best efforts getting refills or service was a quite difficult. We were sitting at the bar area but larger groups of mostly men seemed to be given priority, it was a little off putting and we eneded up settling the bill much earlier than anticipated.
The beers are great and it seems to be quite a popular spot.

Overall a great brewery and one of my top choices in Vancouver. My personal favourites were the Hardy Brown Ale and Nitro Chocolate Oatmeal Stout. Have a try of those if they have them on the board, but they have a large selection all the time so you should be able to find something just for you.
The beer stills, bar, tables and bathroom were very clean. Staff were friendly as well. There are a couple other breweries down the street as well, so you can make a night out of it with good friends and an assortment of great flavours. Or you can drop in and get your growlers filled. Efficient, thoughtful service. Be sure to make a visit to this brewery!

Good variety of beers, at least 12. So there should be at least one that you’d like. They offer from taster glasses to refilling your growler. They have some light snacks, tshirts, and hats.
Nice atmosphere. They have 3 tables and space at the bar. The downside is that they don’t allow dogs inside as most breweries do.
They have a patio with more tables that might be great during the summer and for the pooch.
I love their labels. Clearly displaying what you got (important when you have a couple of growlers!), the day of refill, and ABV. I wish they would add IBU, keeping the education!

I wasn’t sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised by the selection and the quality at this small brewery. The tasting room was trendy in design but welcoming and has a fun vibe. The range of beers was excellent but beyond that, the majority of them were very drinkable and balanced. If you pigeonhole yourself to one type of beer this is the place to try something else! I really enjoyed everything I tried, and give a special shout out to the BC fresh hopped red ale, the Affable IPA, and the Hardy Brown Ale. Definitely try the matcha saison if it’s around — it is subtle and refreshing. Will be back with more people!

Great lil brewery with a variety of craft ales and seasonal selections. The tasting room and working brewery had plenty of seats inside and a couple patio seats where folks were hanging out with their dog. I really enjoyed the festive vibe here and the saison seasonal on tap.
On weekends a food truck even parks out back and we brought our food in for a great lil meal and beer tasting session. They serve pints or tasting size glasses and you can fill a growler to go. A fun way to spend the evening in Port Moody as there are a few New brewery’s in the area you can walk between.

Maybe I love everything easily, but I am also a fan of the beers here too. Maybe it’s the water in Port Moody.
Same industrial vibe inside, but maybe slightly more sterile than Yellow Dog? Whatever, lots of seats inside and several picnic tables outside for the sun lovers. No umbrellas though so bring your sunscreen. They have some snacks at this joint, which I am happy about.
Side note: the bathroom is the size of my apartment. Now you know.

We had a flight down the road and then sauntered up here to see what they had to offer.
Fist impression was AM I IN FLORIDA? It was extremely hot & humid when we stepped in so I immediately told my friend I would order for him if he snagged a seat on the patio outside.
I tried all 5 beers they had available, the bourbon stout (at 11%!) was definitely the crowd favorite, and worth coming back for. The next best was the brown, also quite enjoyable. I found the IPA very weak on the IPA front. Not very hoppy. I can see some people enjoying this, but if you’re a fan of Fat Tug or other intense IPAs this may be a tad disappointing. There was a chocolate (and possibly coffee?) stout that was quite enjoyable, and last and certainly least was the Mandarin. Zero flavor. None. It smelled mildly like orange and our group joked that they might have just plugged in an orange air freshener next to the batch they brewed that day.
5 stars for the Bourbon Stout. –2 for the IPA & Mandarin water.

Conveniently located down the street from Yellow Dog, this is a great way to clear out the craft beer scene in Port Moody.
Parking is available in front, as well as in a small (public) lot across the street.
The inside follows the hipster theme of «converted warehouse», which is what this establishment basically is. The establishment feels a lot more spacious than Yellow Dog, though that may be because of fewer customers. There are also a couple of picnic benches in front, which must be nice during the summer months.
Staff were friendly and professional. The girl even brought my filled growler back to my table.
They sell munchies here as well, such as potato chips.
As they only had 5 brews available at the time, I had a paddle to knock out 4 of them (Hardy Brown Ale, Affable IPA, Smoulder Smoked Porter, and their cast Blond Ale Equinox). Unfortunately, I didn’t find their beer to be very good overall. The only one I liked was the brown ale. A for effort, but the place needs a bit of work.
I may be back at some point in the future, but for now, I think I’ll stick to Yellow Dog.

I really appreciate the great service from the women who work there, they always make me feel appreciated and relaxed as a customer and I somehow end of spending way more than I sought out to!
The vibe is nice and unpretentious unlike some of their competitors. You don’t have to be a Hipster to hang out here and enjoy their fresh quality, beer.
You can get great craft beer at lots of places now thankfully, but Moody Ales goes beyond with their great attitudes and welcoming atmosphere.
I will be a regular customer for the foreseeable future. Worth the drive to Port Moody!
(Haven’t partaken in any of the food trucks yet but some of them are very alluring.)

Friendly staff & a cool tasting room in Port Moody. Worth driving from Vancouver just for the Affable IPA. We’ll keep coming back for sure!

The Hardy Brown Ale is very good. I normally do not like brown ales. The guest tap is a Lemon Matcha Tea Saison– a nice dry light hoppyness. Really liking the Affable IPA!

The beer is very boring, but not poorly made. If you’re looking for higher quality & tasting beers, there is quite a few better breweries out there. The service was great however.

How fun it is to live in an up-​and-​coming brewing district. Moody is pretty darn solid. Their vibe is a tad more Hipster than Yellow Dog, which I leans a bit more to the family side. Come to Moody Ales on a Friday or Saturday evening if you want to hang with the cool cats.
The crew is super cool. I sat and enjoyed a glass of smoked porter while waiting for my growler fill of blonde ale. The flavour was a lot of varying hoppiness that was easy to distinguish. It was nice to chat with them and learn more about their processes.
Overall, their beers lean to the bitter/​hoppy side. Fine for those who like it but I prefer to lean toward the malty beers.
One thing I gotta say tho… is their branding is a bit of a miss. They tried to look all rustic and slapdash but it feels a little forced. To have it scrawled across their back façade in supergraphic is a bit of a mistake IMO. But maybe it will eventually just become a fabric of the community!

Well, the new kid on the Port Moody brewing scene (of 2, so far…) is a lovely place to stop in for a drink and a growler fill. Expect it to be busy at any time on a weekend, as it has already gotten quite popular, and for good reason.
The beers on tap are quite decent; I especially enjoy their IPA and am looking forward to trying the stout they’ve recently released. The taproom itself is a pretty cool industrial space. The bar has a fair bit of room to sit at, as well as a couple of long high-​tops but seats are quite often at a premium. They are always quick to take orders and finish fills and the staff are super friendly and try to remember the returning customers by name. I really love the decal on the west wall that highlights the brewing process from start to finish. It’s a neat art piece and also informational! Also, on weekend evenings they generally have a food truck in the back lot and you can walk through the brewery to grab some food to accompany your beer.
Full disclosure, their marketing guy is the younger brother of a friend from elementary school, but I would be happy to visit even without the personal connection.

In June 2014 Moody Ales started to build their brewery. On October 16^th 2014 they opened their doors to the public for the first time! When you walk through the front door of brewery you will find a beautiful tasting room. Wood topped bars and wood topped tables are quite stunning. A chalk board displays the beer that is currently on tap. They have custom growler fillers that use CO2 to fill with counter pressure. I love the touch they have added with a brewing process display on the one wall that shows the entire brewing process. The brewery itself is small but has a ton of room for expansion. They have a small barrel aging program that I am sure will grow with time also. If you made it out to the grand opening they had a small amount of a test batch of barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout that was to die for! This brewery is already showing it can create some tasty brews but I think they are only breaking the surface of what their creativity can bring. Their test batches are proof of this! So head over to the brewery as soon as possible! Just a note that parking is found in behind the brewery but you have to enter the brewery at the front of the building.
