GoodLife Fitness

This GoodLife is not bad, far from good/​great, but not as bad as some of the other reviews are saying.
Given the location, I can see how this place can get really crowded. The layout is sub optimal for sure. Each machine and station is too close to each other. There is not enough open space to do deadlifts or other exercises that require some open space. There is also way too many machines, but that’s typical GoodLife. Ideally, this location would be 2 levels and you have all the machines on 1 floor, and the people who know how to exercise on the other.
The change rooms are not in great shape but usable. I like how this location has the wider lockers.
The one good thing I’ve seen so far is the staff. Based on my observation, they actually do stuff. I see them constantly put weights back where they belong and keep the space as tidy as possible. Definitely helps when you’re trying to find a particular dumbbell weight.
This place has a decent amount of bench press and incline bench stations, 3 and 2 respectively, 2 power racks, but 2 smith machines, which is 2 too many imo but given its a GoodLife, 1 would be more than enough. They do have a good number of barbells though. Also, they have a seated military bench, which is rare. Bonus points there.

I believe this used to be a platinum club. My cousin had a platinum membership for this place but was surprised at how non-​special it was. Good thing they opened it to just regular Goodlife folks. It’s nice to have a club right next to Union station. However, it’s not a very large club and equipment is so packed on the floor you have zero idea how to actually get from one end of the club to the other end without dead ending into some machines or nearly getting brained by a guy with hand weights.

This GoodLife location was probably the most crowded gym I’ve ever been to, most likely due to the fact that its located right downtown, close to Union Station and all the condos in the area.
It used to be a premier location with only members paying a premium higher price were permitted, but has since been opened to all members many years ago. Upon entering, I was not very impressed with the amenities because I was expecting something posh since it used to be a premier club. Sure they have a good amount of equipment and weight area was a decent size, but not what I was expecting in terms of premier gym. Gone are the days of Curzon Fitness at Skydome (aka Rogers Centre), now that was a premier gym! Anybody remembers them?
The staff at this location were friendly and helpful, plus usually always smiling which was always welcoming. Even at their peak times, they were still friendly. The main gym area was a good size and they had a large group fitness room which was a positive.
This was the first GoodLife location that I tried my first bodypump and spinning classes on recommendation from a friend. I remembered the first bodypump class was a little challenging, but thankful I was in good shape, so after the second class, I was addicted to it. Plus the instructor was amazing. Then, I found out that the instructor taught spinning, so gave that a try on her nudging.
To get to the spinning studio at Union, one would have to exit the gym, go up a flight of stairs, walk the hall of Skywalk to a small windowless room. I thought it was absurd that the studio wasn’t located within the gym and the walk up the stairs and through Skywalk was quite chilly during the winter time. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my first spinning class and kept coming back for a few months because the instructor was amazing.
The women’s changing room was pretty nice and was a fairly decent size, but always crowded after work, so trying to get a locker was often challenging. The shower area looked nice, but the glass partial stalls offered limited privacy, so I normally would just use the shower facilities only on the weekends when it was less busy.
I haven’t been to this location for over a year now because it wasn’t convenient anymore, plus the rushing to the gym to make it on time for the busy 5:30pm weekday classes was quite stressful.
Overall, this location would be convenient for members working/​living in the area or needing to catch the train at Union Station. Avoid during peak times if you can and head to another location since GoodLife is everywhere.

Goodlife Fitness at Union Station is convenient located for many downtown Toronto residents, between work and home. Unfortunately, it is extremely poorly air conditioned (steamy windows and excessive sweat and smell).
However the class schedules are excellent from Monday to Friday, and mediocre on Saturdays.
Sunday classes have all been cancelled, even thought it is the only Goodlife fitness club that is close to the Gardiner residential condo corridor.
If Goodlife would reinstate classes on Sundays, such as body flow and body pump, Goodlife would get 4 stars, despite the poor air conditioning, because Sunday classes are necessary and expected. The only nearby Goodlife is at the former Wellington club, which also cancelled its classes on the weekends. With so many clubs in the downtown core, and so many residents, why not provide the service that members deserve?

This is my usual location for working out. Real convenient if you work in the Financial district. This gym is very large and never feels overly crowded. Good mix between cardio and weights. Staff are friendly. There is a large exercise studio with lot’s of the typical «Goodlife» classes. The spinning classes are held out of the gym in a room in the skywalk to the Roger’s centre which is a little odd. The gym is always clean and the locker /​shower rooms were recently renovated. This location has an executive locker room which I like, it’s not as busy as the general locker room. Broad mix of clientele, no need to be shy if your just starting out or not in the best shape.

My usual GoodLife on McCaul got flooded so I was forced to walk more than 4 minutes from my home to get a workout and decided to give Union Station a go. I’d like to point out that I had nothing whatsoever to do with the McCaul flood-​despite telling anyone that would listen that the place was filthy and needed a good clean.
Union Station was formerly a platinum (fancy, more expensive) club in the chain but they abolished that whole concept so now it’s accessible to the normal scum of the earth GoodLife member like me.
It’s a pretty large club with the extras like a chiropractor etc. There is a nice selection of cardio machines-​a mixture of Precor, Life Fitness and Cybex arc trainers mainly with a few stepmills. You might find your cardio a bit more boring than it has to be though. In usual cheap and backwards GL fashion, there are no individual TVs-​just a few on the wall in front. They’re set to sports, news, soaps/​talk and the pointless GoodLife propaganda channel.
The weights section is large and pretty well stocked. I wish they had more free spots to do a workout though. It’s a bit cramped and crowded with machines. The only decent patch of free floor space is in the personal training section which is behind barriers to keep the riff raff out. The barriers also prevent you from getting at kettlebells and the TRX frame. Not that the space is enough for the trainers. They’re everywhere! They seem to be a mixed bunch. Some are Crossfitters and you’ll see kipping pushups mixed with power cleans when they’re with their clients. Others try to incorporate kettlebells and some seem to try a more individualised approach. One likes to sit down on the equipment-​the steps, benches, massage chairs. He must be very tired. None are as friendly as the McCaul crowd.
Changing rooms are clean! It’s such a novelty. Plenty of lockers too. I like it that they make some attempt to raise themselves above the No Frills of gyms by providing some hair styling products and cotton buds in the changing rooms. That’s super fancy for GoodLife.
This location also has a good range of classes and the studio is big and bright. I may even be tempted to take one here!
All in all; I quite like it!
